Job Overview
Reporting to the Senior Director Finance, the Director Accounting is responsible for managing the company’s accounting and reporting functions, ensuring all compliance requirements are met and providing strategic insight to the business within his / her area of expertise.
He / she will oversee the accurate recording, measuring and reporting of all financial transactions and compliance with corporate accounting policies, will provide an effective internal control environment, and will coordinate all external audits.
The Director-Accounting will lead a team of 11 people in the accounting, reporting, billing & collections, and accounts payable functions.
Position Responsibilities :
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (both legal entity and management reported results);
- Supervise period-close process; timely reporting in compliance with Corporate directives and local requirements;
- Understand, interpret and ensure strict adherence to Corporate Accounting Policies / US GAAP;
- Interface with the Financial Planning and Analysis team to ensure seamless understanding of financials;
- Provide strategic accounting / business advice;
- Prepare year-end pension fund audit file;
- Responsible for the preparation of the quarterly tax provisions and the annual tax return, including annual R&D credit application if required;
- Interface Corporate tax and other corporate Finances functions;
- Manage all internal / external financial audits as well as ensuring compliance with SOX controls;
- Oversee relationships with government authorities (example taxation);
- Direct the billing and collection functions of the corporation and manage the DSO;
- Supervise the A / P function and oversee procurement functions;
- Structure and document transfer pricing arrangements;
- Maintain and improve existing internal controls;
- Participate in due diligence and execute acquisition integration;
- Understand and manage master data decisions;
- Provide for continuous improvement of workflows / process flows;
- Provide leadership and management in the areas of performance management, coaching, and training;
- Assume responsibility for special projects / ad hoc requests.
Qualifications
- A CPA designation is required;
- Experience in an accounting firm is an asset;
- A minimum of 10 years in a similar managerial position, preferably in a multinational company;
- Strong knowledge of accounting standards / US GAAP and sound judgment in the application of rules and policies;
- Strategic, proactive and energetic. Enjoys working with others, learning and sharing knowledge both inside and outside of Finance;
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Proven track record of accomplishments / agent of change;
- Strong Excel skills, an interest in systems and reporting tools, SAP experience preferred;
- Ability to lead and motivate team;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work with both internal and external clients;
- Ability to prioritize, work under pressure and meet deadlines;
- Team player and excellent work organization;
