Reporting to the Parks Coordinator, the Parks Labourer is a field position that is responsible for the landscaping and maintenance of County flower beds, park spaces, and County owned facilities and will complete minor maintenance of outdoor amenities and equipment.
Position Responsibilities
Landscape and Park Maintenance
- Maintain flower beds, planters, sports fields, and landscaped areas;
- Operate and maintain small equipment (mowers, trimmers, UTV’s) and ensure safe use;
- Mentor seasonal parks staff in their job duties;
- Collect refuse as required;
- Maintain campgrounds and day use areas, including tree and brush removal, fire pit relocation, graveling sites, repairing and replacing picnic tables and washroom facilities, signage installations, and other repairs as necessary.
- Snow clearing, flooding, inspections, and complete maintenance of outdoor rinks and winter amenities;
- Assist with vegetation control (herbicide application) in County park spaces;
- Complete documentation for vehicle, equipment, and field inspections, maintenance logs, hazard assessments, etc. required of the position;
- Complete OH&S requirements for assigned duties;
- Support emergency response in parks (e.g., hazard tree removal, storm cleanup);
- Assist with special events setup (tents, tables, signage, waste management);
- Complete other duties as assigned;
Cooperation and Assistance with Other Departments
Assist Agricultural Services with fall and winter vegetation control on County lands, equipment inspections, and minor maintenance, as required;Assist Infrastructure Services with snow removal in parks, hamlets, and at County facilities, as required;Assist facility and vehicle maintenance staff as assigned.Qualification, Knowledge, Skill & Ability Requirements
Education / Experience
Completion of Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent is required;Completion of Landscaping, Parks Maintenance or related certification is preferred;Completion of ATV and UTV operations training is preferred;Completion of Chainsaw Safety training is preferred;Standard First Aid and Level A CPR course;Experience in landscaping and / or parks maintenance is required;One (1) year experience with small equipment and power and hand tools is required;Experience with landscaping and the application of herbicide is considered an asset;Experience with snow removal equipment, trail grooming and outdoor skating rinks is considered an asset;Criminal Record Check with satisfactory results;Valid Driver’s License;Driver’s Abstract with satisfactory results;Defensive Driving Certificate completed within the last five (5) years;Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge and ability of computer programs;Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills;Ability to effectively time manage and work independently, and strong collaboration skills and ability to work in a team environment;Work is primarily conducted in an outside work environment in varying weather conditions;Regular travel within Yellowhead County is required;Potential of dealing with difficult people and interactions with members of the public;Effective collaboration with other departments is required from time to time;Work may be conducted independently or as part of a team;Flexible hours and / or overtime may be required from time to time;Lifting and physical effort may be required; andHazardous material use may be required from time to time.The salary range is $55,515 to $68,838 per year.
