Overview of Position :

Provide legal guidance and support on employment regulatory and compliance matters to the key stakeholders at HUB including HR professionals and business leaders and executives across HUB in Canada.

Secondarily, there will also be significant work on commercial contract matters which Hub Canada is involved in as an insurance broker providing services to its clients.

The individual in this role will work with internal clients and may also interact with external counsel and other attorneys representing clients.

Reporting to the General Counsel - Canada, this individual will be collaborating with, organizing and drafting communications, and advising a variety of individuals across HUB.

This individual will also partner at times with the external employment and insurance attorneys in Canada.

Responsibilities :

  • Be a trusted adviser and contact for our business leaders and HR team on a wide range of employee relations and contract matters.
  • Draft and review various documents, including employment agreements, separation agreements, broker services contracts, program agreements, and corporate policies
  • Provide counsel / advise on various employee requests and benefits issues, including leaves of absence and work accommodations.
  • Manage employment litigation through all phases, as well as ongoing monitoring and coordination with external counsel.
  • Assist with company initiatives by preparing the key employment documents and satisfying local legal requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Human Resources team to prepare and conduct various types of leader and employee training.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of internal policies and procedures to support growth of the Company.
  • Stay up-to-date on developments to laws throughout the various regions where employees are located, and ensure key people are aware and taking action related to these developments.

Qualifications :

  • Must be admitted to practice in the jurisdiction in which you are applying
  • At least 3-5 or more years of experience in a corporation or law firm practicing law. Strong preference given to candidates with :
  • Exposure to employment law preferred (hands-on experience in employment cases, including wrongful termination, discrimination and wage and hour matters) as well as exposure and interest in drafting contracts and in contract law
  • Experience in managing a litigation caseload from beginning to end.
  • Effective written and verbal communication across a variety of internal and external clients, team members, and business partners.
  • Ability to provide timely feedback and reporting on various projects and initiatives.
