In-House Counsel (Employment Law & Corporate / Commercial) (hybrid)

Join our small legal department at our corporate head office in Mid-town Toronto, on a hybrid basis.Procom offers a hybrid work environment through our a Meaningful Work program that balances the flexibility and productivity of remote work with the value of in-person collaborative work.

Reporting to the VP, Legal & General Counsel, you will focus on employment law and commercial contracting, bringing judgment, problem solving and negotiation experience.

The role will be of interest to employment lawyers looking to expand their practice beyond employment law into a broader role, including corporate / commercial work and other practice areas.

Your work will have a strategic impact on our growth, and all aspects of our operations.

To succeed, this candidate will possess strong employment law, drafting and negotiation skills coupled with great communication skills.

They will be solution-oriented and hardworking.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Provide efficient and knowledgeable legal support to the business of Procom and involving our most important clients, including but not limited to employment law, contract drafting and negotiation, legal support for the management team and legal support for the sales team.
  • Draft, review, and interpret legal documentation, analyze legal issues, and make recommendations on action to be taken in substantial legal matters.
  • Manage assigned or delegated special projects and tasks to completion in an efficient manner in accordance with company goals and objectives and perform other tasks assigned / allocated by management of the company.

  • Readiness to handle a mixture of employment law, corporate, commercial, and contract-law work.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to assess the practical implications of legal risk.
  • Ability to proactively identify legal and reputational risks and propose innovative business solutions.
  • Capacity to prioritize competing priorities.

Education and Experience :

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) or Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from accredited Canadian university.
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • 2-4 years of management-side employment law experience.
  • Some experience drafting and negotiating contracts.
  • French language skills an asset, but not required.
