National Account Manager - Western Region
Scope for the position :
Reporting to the Specialty Channel Sales Manager, the National Account Manager is responsible for the management and development of the Company’s business within assigned key accounts in grocery / mass and drug channel, and to meet and exceed sales targets and objectives.
This position implements strategic plans for all key accounts and ensures that they are executed by the Outside Account Managers.
Additionally, this position is responsible to meet and exceed department objectives.
Basic function of the position :
The responsibilities of this role include customer relationship management, contract negotiation, strategic business and marketing planning along with data analysis to determine and ensure targets are met.
The National Account Manager will foster a team selling environment working with and reporting regularly to multiple internal and external stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Provide input and implement the strategic plan that can be clearly measured and executed for all key accounts assigned (grocery / mass / drug channel).
Also refines programs to maximize growth for assigned accounts. National Account Manager owns the entire sales cycle
- Expand relationships with existing customers. Prepare and present customer focused presentations that highlight opportunities and action plans for customers’ business.
- Develops, in collaboration with customers, promotional plans to customers specifications to further grow / enhance the relationship while keeping within set budget.
- Plan and execute product training with customers for NOW and House Brands with support of NOW’s trainer
- Establishes and maintains strong relationships within assigned accounts and customers. Stay up to date with the customer strategy / operating cycles
- Effectively negotiates with customers to achieve mutual business objectives
- Facilitate meetings and hold cross functional teams accountable for task completion
- Using strong communication skills to provide accurate and detailed information to key stakeholders, both internally and externally
- Maintains all projects and presentations and monitors to ensure times are being met by all stakeholders.
- Develops strong brand and product knowledge : marketing positioning, value and target consumer to brands as well as customers
- Maintain competitive and industry knowledge base of product and service offerings and provide strategic recommendations
- Attends customer events, industry events, trade shows, etc.
- Brings new opportunities / leads to the attention of management
- Monitors and communicates customer business plans results for assigned accounts as needed / requested
- Effectively able to forecast customers period sales and outline key drivers / opportunities for profit or topline losses
- Be a leader, foster team- work within the organization
- Develop, lead and be proactive in building yearly targets
- Complete administrative duties such as deal sheets, price increase files, tracking reports, deductions, credits and returns as applicable
- Responsible for any other administrative duties as required
- Stay within assigned budget for any and all Customer budgets as well as business travel and expenses
- Work on special projects and other duties / responsibilities as assigned
Required qualifications, education, experience, training, skills, background, and certifications :
- Post-secondary education in Business, marketing or relevant discipline, or equivalent market
- 3-5 years of Consumer Package Goods (CPG) Industry experience is required
- Minimum of 3 years account management experience calling on major retail chains in grocery, drug and mass channel
- Must have experience in calling on Grocery retailers
- Experience within the natural products industry an asset
- Ability to manage projects involving cross functional teams
- Superior communication and presentation skills
- Solid technology skills in the Microsoft applications including PowerPoint and Excel
- Must own a reliable vehicle with valid driver’s license and clean drivers abstract
- Must have a valid passport as some travel in the USA may be required
- A good understanding of Natural Products Industry
- A valid driver’s license and in possession of own vehicle
- Must be available for conferences and tradeshows (min 5 per year)
