Job Overview
The Electrician Lead Hand is responsible for leading, scheduling and mentoring electrical assembly and repair operations in a heavy mining equipment assembly plant while ensuring employee efficiency and quality of work being produced and maintaining a safe, clean and productive work environment.
Key Job Responsibilities
Review shift scheduling requirements and cover absences by team members as required.
Receive and complete work orders by installing and connecting power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines following diagrams, schematics.
Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems of machines using testing instruments and equipment.
Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure work areas are clean.
Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information.
Establish work procedures with team of electricians for manufacturing new electrical panels and components or electrical assembly in heavy equipment.
Build sound relationships with the assembly shop team and internal and external customers to ensure smooth operations.
Communicate with co-workers and internal customers as needed, including the passing of work from one shift to another.
Maintains orderly workshop and ensures housekeeping requirements are met.
Qualifications / Requirements
Journeyman certificate and / or inter-provincial Red Seal certificate
College Diploma in Industrial or Construction Electrician, Electrical Technologist or equivalent
Proficient in academic and practical knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code
Demonstrated coaching abilities to act as lead and provide direction / support in ambiguous situations and provide guidance and direction as required
Ability to effectively work within fairly complex, fast-moving work environment under minimal supervision
Ability to monitor other employees to ensure safe and quality of work
Knowledge of safe operation of hand tools within production facility
Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, as relevant to electrical applications.
Ability to read electrical blue prints, drawings, schematics.
Good communication skills to work with multi-dimensional team.
Solid work ethic, responsible, trustworthy, and punctual.
Willingness to learn.
High attention to detail and commitment to completing quality work.
