The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is now inviting applications for the following full-time position based out La Ronge :
Prevention Coordinator
The Prevention Coordinator will be responsible for implementing child protection, family support initiatives and collaborates with parents and families to address issues that necessitate child protection under the legal mandate of the Saskatchewan Child & Family Services Act.
The role also involves meticulous documentation of client information and decision-making, as well as conducting risk assessments.
Furthermore, the Prevention Coordinator works proactively to support families and children, aiming to prevent custody referrals and promote family unity.
The Prevention Coordinator will be responsible for developing the budget and overseeing its implementation.
The suitable candidate will be able to perform the following duties :
Identify and liaise with relevant programs, support services, and agencies to meet the needs of children requiring assistance.
Collaborate with these supporting agencies to arrange the delivery of programs to children in need.
- Ensure that the programs are tailored to meet the unique needs of the children and families in the LLRIB communities of Hall Lake, La Ronge, and Sucker River.
- Develop and implement prevention, child protection, and family support service initiatives.
- Provide support to parents and families to address issues that may pose a risk to children’s safety or well-being.
- Work closely with parents and families to address issues or conditions that may pose a risk to children’s safety or well-being.
- Provide guidance, support, and resources to families to remediate issues and create a safe environment for children.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate client files, documenting all factual evidence and case decisions in accordance with established protocols.
- Ensure that all records are kept up to date and are easily accessible for reference and reporting.
- Determine the level of risk to the personal safety of children in child protection cases.
- Complete written risk assessments for all child protection files using the Structured Decision Making (SDM) tools.
- Use these assessments to inform decisions and actions related to child protection.
- Identify families and children at risk of custody referral and intervene proactively.
- Provide preventive support and resources to address issues before they necessitate legal custody measures.
- Collaborate with families to maintain family unity while ensuring children’s safety and well-being.
- Supervisory responsibility over Prevention Workers
The suitable candidate will possess the following qualifications :
- A Diploma / Certificate in a relevant field (e.g., Social Work, Child and Family Studies).
- 5 years previous experience in child protection and family support services.
- Knowledge of and adherence to the Saskatchewan Child & Family Services Act and other relevant legal mandates.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with various agencies and stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Valid Saskatchewan Driver’s license.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Screening check.
