Do you want to work with and be responsible for maintaining the biggest mining equipment as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic at Suncor?

You will use your technical knowledge and strong understanding of equipment maintenance to support our Shovels team in Fort McMurray.

Minimum Requirements :

  • Two years of post-apprenticeship experience maintaining mining heavy equipment
  • Experience with Komatsu and Hitachi hydraulic shovels, and CAT7495 and P&H 4100 cable shovels
  • A valid Alberta Journeyperson Millwright Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson Millwright Certificate;

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • A strong safety mindset with proven safe work practices and knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) regulations

Responsibilities :

  • Safely perform maintenance on, and operate, company provided equipment
  • Running maintenance repairs on the shovel fleet, including troubleshooting hydraulic systems, engines, transmissions, gear cases, and electronics
  • Execute all planned maintenance inspections and repairs on the shovel fleet Remove and replace major shovel components (engines, electric motors, transmissions, gear cases, pumps, undercarriage, etc.)
  • Work within the maintenance & reliability strategy ensuring corrective work notifications are created and maintenance history is recorded.
  • Participate in post-event failure analysis and root cause discussions to develop solutions
  • Build practices and procedures for repairs and implement approved modifications for the shovel fleet

Location and other Key Details :

  • You will work out of our Base Plant site in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • The shift schedule is a six days on / six days off rotation (three days on, three nights on, six days off; 12-hour shifts)
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • You will be required to perform some heavy lifting, use ladders and work on elevated work sites such as scaffolds and towers with the ability to perform in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
