The Role

The Creative Writing Department in the Faculty of Language, Literature and Performing Arts is seeking to hire 1 regular probationary instructor qualified to teach courses in Introduction to Writing Fiction, Introduction to Writing Children’s Literature, Speculative Fiction, and Writing Young Adult Fiction.

Responsibilities As a regular probationary or contract instructor in the Creative Writing Department, you will

  • develop course outlines following curriculum guidelines,
  • select appropriate textbooks and create teaching materials,
  • deliver quality workshop-based instruction,
  • design assignments and assessment criteria,
  • evaluate student progress,
  • hold regular office hours, and
  • maintain currency in the field through regular professional development.

In addition, as a regular probationary instructor in the Creative Writing Department, you will also

  • participate in curriculum revision and development,
  • attend departmental and Faculty-Wide meetings, and
  • share in departmental and Faculty-Wide responsibilities.

To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need The successful candidate will have :

  • A minimum of an MFA in Creative Writing or equivalent
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience teaching post-secondary credit courses in Creative Writing, or equivalent
  • A minimum of 1 traditionally published book in the specified genres, or equivalent (such as journal publications)
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team, excellent communication skills, demonstrated initiative, self-directedness, ability to work well with others, and
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Evidence of administrative skills and experience would be an asset.

Evidence of engagement with Indigenous teaching methods and / or familiarity with work by BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ writers would be an asset.
