Overall Responsibilities
Reporting to the Supervisor, the QC Technician will be responsible for sampling, inspection and testing of all raw / bulk materials and packaging components, to ensure compliance with specifications, review of blending batch records and organoleptic tests for blend release, assessment of the receiving documentation
Specific Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Review and approve blending batch records and perform organoleptic tests for blend release. Inform the team about the released blends.
- Document and promptly communicate any non-conformances and OOS results during the blend assessment.
- Collect samples of incoming raw, bulk or packaging materials for QC assessment and review the accompanying documentation for compliance with the specifications.
- Perform all applicable tests on packaging components (weight, closure, ATP swab tests, etc.).
- Perform weight variation procedure on incoming bulk capsules + AQL, Hardness as required.
- Collect, review and maintain all documentation used in QC assessment of materials.
- Maintain overall sanitation of the QC Lab, the sampling booth and their contents.
- Maintain quality documentation logs and checklists.
- Maintain retain samples of raw materials and blends.
- Maintain the Sampling Booth and all related items.
- Perform inspection of raw materials, bulk materials and blends as per standard procedures
- Perform lab testing activities (i.e. Physical testing, organoleptic testing, physical testing and other administrative duties)
- Create and maintain standards and Flavour Sample Reference Standard Qualification documents for Raw materials and blends
- Create and update specifications for labels and components
- Complete Deviation Forms and Quality Incident Reports as required
- Participate in Investigation and Root Cause Analysis for unplanned deviations
- Working in compliance with the company’ s Health & Safety Policies / SOP’s including but not limited to the Safety Responsibilities Procedure.
- Will comply with Good Manufacturing Practices in all GMP sensitive areas of the facility
- To perform other related duties and projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or college diploma in chemistry, biotechnology or related scientific discipline.
- Quality Control Certificate, Food Safety Certificate or industry experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of GMP and Health Canada Regulations for natural health products and food.
- Knowledge and understanding of quality and testing requirements and acceptable tolerance limits.
- Understanding of basic analytical test methodologies
- Good understanding of data analysis and report preparation with solid knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, & Microsoft Teams.
- Effective analytical problem solving and organizational skills.
- Detail-oriented and excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to handle strict deadlines and work under pressure with multiple ongoing tasks.
- Able to work shift work and to work overtime to complete projects in a timely fashion as required.
- On-Site availability role as this is mainly a IN-Person role with limited to no Working from Home availabilities.
- Forklift experience an asset.
- Some lifting may be required (up to 25kg)
- Perform any related EM Environmental Monitoring (Air & Water Sampling, Micro Swabbing)
