Job description

Position: Quality Control Coordinator

Job Type: 18-Month Contract, Full-Time, 14/7 Rotation

Location: Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta to start, then site-based in Kitimat, British Columbia

Pay Range: $72,000 to $90,000 annually, plus an additional 25% of base salary

Purpose of the Role

SB Canada is hiring Quality Control Coordinators to lead QA/QC on a major industrial deep foundations project in Kitimat, BC. You will be the main point of contact for quality on site, carrying out inspections, keeping quality records complete and accurate, managing non-conformances, and delivering turnover packages that meet the client’s quality requirements.

We are looking for high-calibre coordinators who know construction quality from the field up. This is a site-based role on a 14/7 rotation.

Key Responsibilities of the Role
  • Be an active participant in SB Canada’s Health and Safety Program, helping to build a positive safety culture as we move from compliance to care.

  • Prepare the site and liaise with estimators, engineers, project managers, coordinators and geotechnical surveyors before construction starts.

  • Review project plans and specifications, and prepare required QA/QC documents including the site-specific QA/QC plan, input to method statements, and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).

  • Ensure all quality documents, procedures and records are approved before use on the project.

  • Contribute to quality planning, and prepare project quality plans and ITPs as requested by the Project Manager.

  • Act as the main point of contact for all QA/QC items, liaising with the client on quality matters and submitting documentation on time.

  • Carry out field inspections and monitor installation procedures, ensuring all field records are compiled.

  • Manage non-conformances and corrective actions through to closure, working with the Engineering department to resolve NCRs.

  • Complete surveillance reports and quality audits, and ensure project auditing meets client requirements.

  • Maintain quality records and documents in line with SB Canada’s quality assurance policies.

  • Complete weekly and monthly QA/QC statistical reports.

  • Monitor the quality performance of subcontractors, subconsultants and suppliers.

  • Assist delivery teams with standardizing, compiling and archiving turnover packages.

  • Review tender opportunities and act as SB Canada’s point of contact for QA/QC queries.

  • Drive continuous improvement within the QA/QC program, and issue Quality Alerts to share best practices.

Qualifications – What Will Make You Successful
Education
  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience
  • 3+ years of construction quality control or quality assurance experience (Preference to experience in oil & gas, nuclear or equivalent).

  • Experience on major industrial or piling / deep foundations projects is a strong asset.

  • Hands-on experience with ITPs, field inspections, NCRs and corrective actions.

  • Experience compiling turnover packages that meet client requirements.

Soft Skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong documentation habits.

  • Confident communicator with clients, engineers, crews and subcontractors.

  • Firm on quality standards while staying practical and solutions-focused.

  • Self-directed and able to manage the QA/QC scope independently.

  • Comfortable with remote site work, camp living and a rotational schedule.

Preferred Skills
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management principles.

  • Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.

  • CSA concrete field testing or CWB welding inspection certification.

Required Designations or Certifications
  • Valid Driver's license
