Compensation:

The base salary for this role ranges between $95,200 - $130,900, with eligibility for an incentive target of 15% which is contingent upon achieving both individual and company performance objectives.

The pay range above is not a guarantee of compensation but reflects the potential total compensation for this role at the time of this posting based on the assigned job grade. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as geographic work location, relevant experience and individual skills. The stated range is a reasonable estimate and may change over time; final compensation may fall above or below the range provided. Grainger reserves the right to amend, modify, or discontinue its compensation and benefits programs at any time, in accordance with applicable law.

Position Summary:

The Environment, Health & Safety department has an immediate opening for a Health & Safety Manager to be located at our Distribution Centre in Caledon, Ontario.

This position is responsible for implementing environmental, health, and safety initiatives for distribution facilities, branches, and offices in specified area of responsibility. The incumbent will implement in training and educating all team members to ensure compliance regulations, laws, and policies. In addition, the incumbent will provide subject matter expertise to Distribution Centre (global change) and Branch managers and/or coordinators on all issues related environmental, health and safety. Additionally, the incumbent will partner with the Security Department to support the required needs in the Distribution centres within their area of responsibility.

This position requires the ability to travel approximately 15 – 20% of the time.

Job Responsibilities (You Will):

  • The key responsibility of this position is to own and improve the safety performance of DC & branch locations in terms of injury rates, audit results and resolution, claims management, and overall compliance
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and all applicable Federal and Provincial legislation
  • Implement EHS initiatives and strategies to reduce risk including but not limited to the areas of: OSHA, ergonomics, injury / illness reduction, hazard communication, environmental, emergency preparedness, and general employee safety.
  • Provide direct support to leaders and team members in accident / incident root cause investigation, regular communication and updates as well as lead any required remediation and prevention activities
  • Develop and manage business critical projects and programs with significant financial and or legal impact.
  • Develop, plan, organize, and direct the activities of on-site security staff at the Distribution Centers and ensure actions comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet Company and customer needs.
  • Work with and through Regional EHS and Corporate Investigations to investigate and recover stolen/lost assets within the Distribution Centers.
  • Manage complex EH&S improvement programs across Distribution Centres and Branch units.
  • Inform Director, EH&S of all critical business incidents and provide monthly reports on projects and/or incidents.
  • Conduct regular audits, inspections and investigations; and ensure that appropriate corrective action and follow up is taken
  • Provide support and mentorship to joint health and safety committees in the successful completion of committee goals and objectives
  • Maintain all required documentation and records commensurate with legal and company requirements
  • Prepare required government agency reports and act as an interface with various governmental agencies and inspectors.
  • Provide advice and counsel to all stakeholders and ensure excellent customer service

Education/Experience (You Have):

  • Bachelor’s degree or Post-secondary diploma specific to a health and safety discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct EHS experience, preferably in distribution, or manufacturing organization.
  • Thorough knowledge of health and safety legislation with technical knowledge and abilities related to safety matters.
  • Professional EHS certification preferred.
  • High level verbal and written communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of customers and team members at all levels of the organization.
  • High degree of persuasive ability, tact, and diplomacy both internally and externally; persistent, yet knows when to step back
  • Ability to deal with government agencies, authorities and inspectors in a professional and tactful manner
  • Experienced trainer; able to create and deliver high impact training programs to all levels within an organization
  • Must be a change agent, willing to challenge the status quo and have a positive impact on the work environment
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, has a winning attitude with proven ability to manage in a fast-paced, flexible environment.
  • Familiarity and experience with ISO standards, processes and audits
