II. ROLE

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that products and manufacturing processes comply with Latecoere’s Quality Management System, customer requirements, applicable engineering specifications and aerospace industry standards.

Working closely with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Program, Supply Chain and other Quality team members, the incumbent supports the delivery of conforming products on time and within established cost objectives.

The position acts as the voice of Product Quality for an assigned aerospace or defence program and supports non-conformance management, root cause analysis, corrective actions, First Article Inspection activities, quality performance monitoring and customer documentation.

II. MISSIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PRODUCT AND PROCESS QUALITY

• Ensure that products and manufacturing processes comply with approved drawings, specifications, work instructions, customer requirements and applicable quality standards.
• Provide day-to-day Quality Engineering support to Production and Manufacturing Engineering.
• Review manufacturing and inspection documentation to confirm compliance and completeness.
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, technical requirements and applicable acceptance criteria.
• Support the development and implementation of effective process controls to prevent defects and improve product conformity.
• Identify product and process risks and work with cross-functional teams to implement appropriate containment, corrective and preventive actions.
• Promote quality awareness and a strong Quality culture throughout the assigned production area.

NON-CONFORMANCE AND CORRECTIVE ACTION MANAGEMENT

• Initiate, review and coordinate the timely disposition and closure of non-conformance reports through the Material Review Board process.
• Ensure that non-conforming products are appropriately identified, documented, segregated and controlled.
• Determine when formal root cause analysis is required and facilitate investigations using appropriate problem-solving methodologies, including 5 Why, fishbone analysis and 8D.
• Coordinate containment actions and support the development, implementation and verification of corrective actions.
• Monitor recurring defects and quality trends to identify opportunities for systemic improvement.
• Support the investigation and resolution of customer complaints, escapes, SNAGs and internal quality issues.
• Verify the effectiveness and sustainability of corrective actions before closure.

FIRST ARTICLE INSPECTION AND QUALITY DOCUMENTATION

• Prepare, review and maintain First Article Inspection documentation in accordance with customer requirements and AS9102, where applicable.
• Ensure that quality records and objective evidence are accurate, complete, traceable and retained in accordance with QMS requirements.
• Maintain required information in company, customer and supplier documentation portals.
• Support configuration control and ensure that the correct revisions of drawings, specifications and quality documentation are being used.
• Assist with the preparation and review of inspection plans, quality plans and other program-specific quality documentation.

PERFORMANCE AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

• Monitor and analyze Quality performance indicators, including non-conformances, rework, scrap, escapes, SNAGs, customer complaints and corrective-action closure.
• Prepare and present Quality performance information to management and cross-functional teams.
• Use data and statistical methods to identify trends, prioritize issues and support fact-based decision-making.
• Participate in continuous-improvement initiatives focused on reducing defects, variation, rework and cost of poor quality.
• Support internal, customer and regulatory audits and coordinate the timely closure of assigned audit findings.
• Recommend improvements to processes, procedures, inspection methods and quality controls.

CUSTOMER, SUPPLIER AND CROSS-FUNCTIONAL SUPPORT

• Communicate professionally with customers and suppliers regarding quality documentation, non-conformances, corrective actions and other assigned quality matters.
• Participate in internal, customer and supplier meetings as required.
• Provide technical guidance to Quality Inspectors and Quality Technicians regarding specifications, acceptance criteria and quality documentation.
• Work collaboratively with Operations, Engineering, Program, Supply Chain and Quality personnel to resolve product and process issues.
• Escalate significant product, process, customer or compliance risks to the Quality Manager.

III. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Comply with Latecoere’s Quality Management System, Code of Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures.
• Perform duties in accordance with applicable customer, regulatory and aerospace quality requirements.
• Maintain the confidentiality, integrity and traceability of technical and quality information.
• Ensure that Quality records created or reviewed as part of the role are accurate, complete and properly controlled.
• Know and comply with the company’s health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
• Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, accidents, environmental concerns and potential quality escapes.
• Participate in required Quality, safety, technical and compliance training.
• Contribute to the achievement of site Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost objectives.
• Carry out other related missions or activities upon request from the manager.

IV. AUTHORITY

The Quality Engineer has the authority to:

• Identify, document and escalate product or process non-conformances.
• Place product on hold or stop the release of product when conformity, safety, traceability or compliance may be compromised.
• Request containment actions and additional verification when a quality risk is identified.
• Recommend the suspension of an operation when it may produce non-conforming product or create a significant safety, environmental or compliance risk.
• Request a formal root cause analysis or corrective-action process when warranted.
• Escalate unresolved quality issues to the Quality Manager or appropriate management representative.
• Provide recommendations for product, process and Quality Management System improvement.

Final disposition authority for non-conforming product must remain in accordance with established Material Review Board delegations and customer requirements.

V. REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing, Industrial or Quality Engineering, or another relevant technical discipline.
• Recent graduates with relevant co-op, internship or manufacturing experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE

• Two to three years of Quality Engineering or manufacturing-quality experience is preferred.
• Candidates with more extensive relevant experience will also be considered.
• Experience in aerospace, defence or another highly regulated manufacturing environment—such as automotive, medical devices, precision manufacturing or a comparable industry—is preferred.
• Experience working in a production environment and providing hands-on support to manufacturing teams is an asset.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

• Ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing is preferred.
• Familiarity with non-conformance management, Material Review Board processes, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Familiarity with problem-solving methodologies such as 5 Why, fishbone analysis or 8D.
• Knowledge of First Article Inspection and AS9102 requirements is an asset.
• Knowledge of AS9100 or another regulated Quality Management System is an asset.
• Familiarity with statistical methods, trend analysis and process-control techniques is an asset.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Ability to learn and work with ERP, Quality Management and customer documentation systems.

SECURITY AND EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Must be able to successfully complete and maintain any security assessment or authorization required under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program, ITAR and other applicable customer or government requirements.
• Access to controlled goods or technology will only be granted after all required authorizations have been obtained.
