Job description

Job Description

Our Client: We are recruiting multiple Staff Accountants – Audit on behalf of a respected boutique CPA public accounting firm located in downtown Milton. The firm has supported small to mid-sized businesses across the Greater Toronto Area for many years, providing accounting, assurance, tax, bookkeeping, and business advisory services.

Why Join Them?

This is an excellent opportunity to join a close-knit, high-performing team that values collaboration, professional growth, and work-life balance. Our client fosters a culture of continuous learning, respect, and excellence, and is committed to both client and employee success.

Unlike larger firms where responsibilities are highly specialized, team members gain hands-on experience across assurance, tax, advisory, and accounting engagements while working directly with business owners, management teams, boards of directors, and charitable organizations.

Location: Milton, Ontario (In Person Only)

Salary: $90,000–$100,000

Employment Type: Full-Time | Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

During tax season: Additional hours, including a half day every Saturday in March and April, may be required. Any overtime or banked time will be handled in accordance with applicable employment standards and firm policy.

About the Role

As a Staff Accountant – Audit, you will perform accounting, assurance, and tax work with a focus on executing audit, review, and compilation engagements for small to mid-sized businesses, owner-managed businesses, corporations, sole proprietorships, not-for-profit organizations, and registered charities. You will play a key role in client communication, tax filings, and financial analysis. As you build experience and trust within the firm, you may also gain exposure to business consulting and advisory projects in areas such as tax planning, estate planning, and business acquisitions and dispositions. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is ready to take the next step in their public accounting career.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and complete audit, review, and compilation engagements.
  • Prepare adjusting journal entries and year-end entries.
  • Serve as the primary contact between clients, client staff, and firm personnel.
  • Prepare personal (T1) and corporate (T2) tax returns as well as charity and not-for-profit reporting requirements, where applicable.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting or business with an accounting focus.
  • CPA designation (or close to completion) strongly preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in public practice, preferably with owner-managed clients.
  • Hands-on experience with audits, reviews, and compilations.
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian tax laws and compliance standards.
  • Proficiency with Caseware, QuickBooks, and/or Sage (Simply Accounting).
  • Familiarity with tax software (e.g., Cantax) is an asset.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain high attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed during peak periods.

Benefits

  • Collaborative, team-oriented work culture in a boutique firm environment.
  • Emphasis on work-life balance and long-term stability.
  • Full benefits package, including:
  • Extended health care
  • Dental and vision coverage
  • Life insurance
  • Opportunities for professional development and career advancement.

  • General Accountant
