The Role

We are looking for a dedicated individual to join our team as a Substation Electrician (Journeyperson/Apprentice). All work must be performed in accordance with company work practices, standards, and all applicable legislation and regulations, including those under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).

Candidates hired at the apprentice level will perform work appropriate to their training and experience and will assume increasing responsibility as they progress through the program under the guidance of the Supervisor and qualified team members. The successful candidate must be enrolled in, or willing to enroll in, and successfully complete the MEARIE Substation Electrician certification program, including all required training and hours. Upon completion, the individual will be recognized as a certified journeyperson.

This is an on-site, unionized position based at 1340 Brant Street, Burlington, governed by the applicable collective agreement. The role is being posted to fill an existing vacancy at Burlington Hydro and may be filled at the Journeyperson or Apprentice level, with compensation commensurate with qualifications and experience.

  • Perform Protection and Control (P&C) work, including installation, programming, troubleshooting, and interrogation of intelligent electronic devices (IEDs)
  • Work with feeder protection relays, remote switching intelligence, inter-communications, calibrations, graphics editing, and commissioning of existing and new SCADA devices
  • Review, update, and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings, prints, and diagrams using AutoCAD
  • All other duties as assigned

What We Are Looking For

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with employees, customers, and the public
  • Physical fitness to safely perform work, including climbing, working at heights, working in confined spaces, and outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Willingness and ability to participate in regular emergency call-outs, on-call rotation, and work under emergency conditions, with the ability to arrive on-site within one hour of being called
