The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027.

This search aligns with the University’s commitment to strategically and proactively promote diversity among our community members (Statement on Equity, Diversity & Excellence). Recognizing that Black, Indigenous, and other Racialized communities have experienced inequities that have developed historically and are ongoing, we strongly welcome and encourage candidates from those communities to apply.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Media Studies, Communication Studies, or a related field by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching in media and communication studies. We seek candidates whose teaching interests address areas of growth within the Media and Communication Studies (MCS) program and complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths.

The successful candidate will be able to teach in at least two of the program's thematic areas – i) Media and the Arts; ii) Media and Society; iii) Media and Institutions – with emphasis on the third area. The successful candidate will also demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following fields: media industries and institutions, creator and influencer cultures, media production studies, community-engaged media, media policy, media governance, and media management. We welcome applications from candidates who take a critical, comparative, and global approach to media industries, and have experience teaching in media production studies; critical AI studies; information and disinformation; critical algorithm justice; media management; and/or have professional experience in media industries. We are especially interested in candidates whose background and expertise position them to contribute to collaborative curricular innovation with other ACM programs, including Arts and Media Management.

Candidates must have teaching experience in a degree-granting program, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier (including the required materials outlined below), and strong letters of reference.

Candidates must also show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and to the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment, as demonstrated through the application materials.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be assigned a teaching and service load, and will be expected to:

  • teach undergraduate courses in Media Studies, including large introductory courses and upper-level seminars;
  • contribute to curriculum development and program innovation in the Media and Communication Studies program;
  • engage in pedagogical scholarship and other teaching-related scholarly activities;
  • supervise undergraduate research, experiential learning, and capstone projects as needed;
  • participate in departmental, campus, and University service activities;
  • support the development of innovative in-person, hybrid, and digitally enhanced teaching practices.

HIRING SALARY RANGE
The salary range is $120,000 – $140,000 CAD per annum, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
