Skilled General Labourer - Warehouse Maintenance

This is a contract with strong potential for extension at a competitive wage of $25.50/hr. In the fast-paced manufacturing & logistics sector, your role as a Skilled General Labourer ensures seamless daily operations. We offer two distinct schedules: the Oshawa Evening shift (Sunday to Wednesday or Wednesday to Saturday, 5:00 PM to 1:30 AM), and the Ajax day shift (Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM).

Your day-to-day as a Skilled General Labourer involves basic facility upkeep, essential troubleshooting, and scheduled maintenance. You will ensure conveyers, zebra printers, and automated equipment remain functional throughout your shift. Safety is paramount in manufacturing & logistics; observing all safety procedures fosters a secure environment. This role builds your practical skill set with hand tools and building systems, offering steady work and an active voice in improving workplace experiences.

While English is the primary language for this manufacturing & logistics position in Ontario, bilingualism (English and French) is a valuable asset in the broader Canadian job market. Understanding multiple languages opens doors, though it is not a strict requirement for executing the daily tasks of this facility.

Skills:

• A High school diploma or GED equivalency.
• Minimum 1-year related experience or training in mechanical or electrical fundamentals.
• Possession of a forklift, reach, and/or order picker PIT licence.
• Ability to safely work from heights and operate a scissor lift.
• Physical capacity to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch during shifts.
• Regular use of hands to feel/handle, and frequent sitting, reaching, and communicating.
• Comfort with occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.

Responsibilities
• Performing minor repairs on conveyers, zebra printers, and automated equipment.
• Analyzing and diagnosing basic customer equipment problems and breakdowns.
• Correctly utilizing power tools while doing no harm to the equipment.
• Recommending and executing appropriate minor service and repair actions.
• Performing scheduled equipment maintenance per the customer contract.
• Documenting each service call and providing necessary paperwork.
• Observing safety procedures and properly disposing of hazardous waste.
• Remaining on call during weekends to support facility needs.
• Reporting food safety problems to senior management for relevant accounts.
• Performing other duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications
• Experience in general maintenance, including basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building systems.
• Hands-on experience with automated machinery, hand and power tools, lifts, and conveyer systems.
• Ability to apply common sense to carry out simple written, oral, or diagrammed instructions.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Effective communication skills to interact with various stakeholders.
• Ability to complete duties in standardized situations with minimal variables.
