Job description

Description

Role Overview: The Maintenance Repair Analyst plays a key role in strengthening fleet reliability, safety and performance for heavy-duty trucks and trailers. By connecting field expertise with fleet leadership, this role uses data analytics, diagnostics and engineering judgment to drive smarter maintenance decisions, reduce downtime, control repair costs and support strong regulatory compliance.

This is an opportunity to build a more proactive, insight-driven maintenance function within Fleet Management & Maintenance. The successful candidate will turn work orders, telematics, failure trends, technician insight and cost data into practical actions that improve asset uptime, support frontline teams and guide repair, maintenance and lifecycle decisions across tractors, trailers and heavy-duty fleet assets.

Location: Dartmouth, NS, Moncton, NB or North York, ON
Schedule: Monday - Friday| 8:00am - 5:00pm
Compensation: Will be discussed during the recruitment process and aligned with the scope of the role, operational requirements and candidate experience.
Benefits: Health & Dental, RRSP (employer matching), Work Perks program

Role Objectives

  • Reduce preventable breakdowns, roadside repairs, repeat repairs, and hours of unplanned equipment downtime.
  • Optimize preventative maintenance by asset class, age, duty cycle, condition, failure history and regulatory requirements.
  • Lower lifecycle cost through stronger repair-versus-replace decisions, warranty recovery and vendor performance management.
  • Improve maintenance data and reporting for operational, budgeting, equipment specification, and capital-planning decisions.
  • Strengthen inspection readiness, defect follow-up and maintenance-record compliance across the fleet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Field–management bridge: Translate shop-floor insights into clear business impacts and share feedback with fleet and maintenance management and across locations.
  • Reliability analytics: Review work orders, telematics, diagnostics, inspection results and failure metrics to identify recurring component failures, including brakes, wheel ends, suspensions, driveline, electrical and emissions systems.
  • Diagnostics and root cause: Coordinate structured investigation of complex, repeat and high-impact failures using technician evidence, fault codes, service history and engineering judgment.
  • Preventative maintenance: Optimize preventative maintenance intervals, inspections and job plans using Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) guidance, regulation, asset age, duty cycle, condition and failure history.
  • Cost, warranty and vendors: Analyze maintenance spend versus replacement cost, maintenance cost per kilometer, improve warranty recovery, assess vendor performance and collaborate with parts teams on standards, inventory and sourcing opportunities.
  • Data, compliance and improvement: Inspection/out-of-service trends; safety-action closure; complete and timely work-order data; adherence to Nova Scotia commercial vehicle maintenance and trip inspection requirements and applicable Canadian safety standards.

Education & Experience

Required

  • Degree in Industrial Engineering or a relevant technical diploma in mechanical, heavy-equipment, reliability or fleet maintenance technology. Equivalent combinations of education, certification and practical fleet experience will be considered.
  • Three or more years working hands-on or in an analytical capacity with heavy-duty commercial vehicles, including trucks, tractors or trailers.
  • Strong knowledge of major vehicle and trailer systems and experience interpreting OEM diagnostics, fault codes, Engine Control Module (ECM) information, telematics and repair history.
  • Proficiency with fleet maintenance software such as Trimble TMT, Dossier or comparable systems, plus diagnostic tools, spreadsheets and BI reporting and data analytics tools.
  • Credibility with experienced technicians, clear communication with fleet leaders, sound judgment, ability to travel to terminals, and maintenance facilities.

Preferred experience

  • Red Seal Truck and Transport Mechanic certification is highly preferred, as it bridges theoretical engineering with practical shop reality; professional engineer, Certified Engineering Technologist/Technician, or comparable maintenance credential is an asset.
  • Experience with Trimble TMT, Dossier or a comparable platform, J1939/CAN data, OEM diagnostic tools, telematics and mobile inspection systems.
  • Power BI, SQL, Lean/Six Sigma, reliability-centred maintenance or structured failure-analysis capability.
  • Experience in a distributed mixed-make fleet and freight, petroleum, bulk, dangerous-goods or other high-compliance operations.

What you bring

  • Technical credibility: You can build trust with experienced technicians, maintenance leaders and operational teams by understanding the practical realities of heavy-duty fleet maintenance.
  • Analytical judgment: You know how to turn maintenance data, diagnostics, work orders and failure trends into clear insights and practical recommendations.
  • Systems thinking: You can look beyond individual repairs to identify patterns, root causes and opportunities to improve fleet reliability, safety and cost performance.
  • Clear communication: You can explain technical findings in a straightforward way to both shop-floor and leadership audiences.
  • Collaboration: You enjoy working across maintenance, fleet operations, parts, vendors and leadership to solve problems and improve processes.
  • Continuous improvement mindset: You are motivated to make maintenance practices more proactive, consistent and data-driven.
  • Safety-first approach: You understand the importance of safe, compliant and reliable equipment in a high-performance fleet environment.
  • Professional integrity: You use sound judgment, accurate information and practical evidence to support decisions.
