Job Description

Job Summary:

The Lodge Manager owns the end-to-end operation of a remote workforce accommodation (typically 200–1,600 beds), ensuring safe, consistent delivery of accommodations, food services, housekeeping/janitorial, laundry, and guest services. This role blends on-the-ground service leadership with business management: you will coach a multi-disciplinary team, maintain zero-harm safety performance, meet client scope and contractual KPIs, control labour and consumables budgets, and steer continuous improvement. You are the client's primary on-site representative, translating changing occupancy forecasts into staffing, menu, and rooms plans, while coordinating logistics (flights, crew changes, bagged lunches) and contingency responses to weather or supply disruptions. Success is measured through audit compliance, financial results, client satisfaction, and the engagement and retention of your people.

  • Quality & Compliance: ≥ 90% on internal/client service and food safety audits; all regulatory, HACCP/WHMIS documents are current.
  • Financials: Labour and consumables within monthly budget; accurate forecasts (±3%) and on-time PO/invoice cycle.
  • Operations: On-time service windows; room readiness; inventory variance ≤ 2%; waste reduction YoY.
  • People: Critical roles staffed; turnover below target; training completion ≥ 95%; engagement actions executed quarterly.
  • Client: Service level KPIs met; no unresolved client escalations > 48 hours; positive monthly scorecard trend.

This position requires fly-in/fly-out travel from Edmonton, Alberta or Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, to the project site in Nunavut, with potential for weather-related delays or logistical challenges. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct daily operations across culinary, housekeeping/janitorial, laundry, front desk/rooms, and common areas; ensure "home away from home" standards.
  • Maintain service windows and throughput for peaks (crew changes, shift overlaps) using queue management and line balancing.
  • Build a safety-first, inclusive culture; recognize performance and coach for results.
  • Partner with HR/Workforce to recruit, onboard, and schedule; manage cross-shifts and succession for key roles (Chef, HK Supervisor, Front Desk).
  • Conduct performance check-ins, corrective actions, and development plans; ensure training and certification currency (Food Safety, WHMIS, First Aid).
  • Coordinate with logistics, maintenance, and site security; align with project milestones and shutdowns/turnarounds.
  • Own site P&L levers: labour model, consumables, waste; review daily flash and weekly forecasts.
  • Approve schedules, timesheets, and invoices; create POs; reconcile delivery notes; manage vendor relationships.
  • Lead toolbox talks; ensure FLHAs/JSAs, inspections, and incident reporting/RCAs are complete and filed.
  • Enforce HACCP, allergen management, cleaning & sanitation plans; maintain water testing logs and potable water controls as required.
  • Coordinate flight manifests, shuttle schedules, and crew-change day flows with Workforce/Travel.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive management experience in hospitality, remote camp operations, or similar fields.
  • Post-secondary education in business, hospitality, or a related discipline preferred.
  • WHMIS and other relevant safety certifications (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
  • Proven success leading 300+ person teams and operating within defined budgets and KPIs.

Other Skills and Competencies:

  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience in hospitality, remote camp, or related operations.
  • Strong client service focus with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and operational management tools.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety compliance.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision during remote shifts.
  • Cultural sensitivity and adaptability in diverse team environments, including collaboration with Indigenous and Inuit staff

Physical Demands:

  • Extended periods of standing, walking, and on-site presence in remote locations.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move items up to 40–50 lbs.
  • Work in varying environmental conditions, including extreme weather.
  • Travel to multiple sites, including fly-in/fly-out locations.

Additional Information

Working Conditions:

  • Project-based role with primary work in Nunavut, flexibility for remote work when not on-site.
  • Ability to work long shifts and rotational schedules (e.g., 4 weeks on / 2 weeks off or similar).
  • Endurance to function effectively in remote northern climates, including extreme cold, wind, or lack of daylight during certain periods.
  • Resilience under isolation conditions—long periods away from home with limited external contact.
  • Occasional travel to other projects across Canada.
  • Fly-in/fly-out arrangement; shared accommodations and meals provided while on-site.
  • Extended periods away from home with possible weather-related travel delays.
  • Must comply with all company and client health, safety, and operational standards.

  • Enjoy excellent work-life balance with a 3 weeks on/3 weeks off rotation
  • Ability to expand skills in a large camp atmosphere

  • Be #1 on day 1 by joining an industry leader
