The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) is seeking a self-motivated and detail-oriented individual to provide support as a Director, Supply Chain and Distribution within the Supply Chain and Distribution Branch.

This position is required to work on-site, reporting to the Vice President, Liquor Wholesale and Distribution Division.

This position is responsible for directing and overseeing all aspects of SLGA's liquor supply chain and distribution services. This includes overall accountability and direct responsibility for all purchasing, customs, inbound, and outbound activities at SLGA's Distribution Centre (DC). The DC provides uninterrupted service 364 days a year to private retail stores and is the province's largest source of mainstream spirits, wine, refreshment beverages, and specialty beer products. The Director oversees the management of more than 9,000 unique products, distributing 2.9 million cases annually to 450 customers. The position is responsible for an annual gross revenue budget of approximately $350 million and an annual expense budget of $11 million. In addition to operational leadership, the position is responsible for providing visible, credible, and people-centered leadership by building strong teams, supporting employee development, and fostering a culture of safety, trust, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Primary Responsibilities

This position performs such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, including but not limited to the following:

Operational

  • Oversee the building and physical assets of the Distribution Centre (DC). This role includes, but is not limited to, ensuring the security, utilities, and maintenance of the building and all its equipment. Everything must be safe, reliable, and compliant with or exceed industry standards.
  • Oversee all purchasing, customs, transportation, and DC operations to ensure the achievement of SLGA's Liquor Wholesale goals and strategic initiatives.
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with industry stakeholders, suppliers, third-party distributors, and transportation representatives.
  • Establish, monitor, and adjust production standards that meet or exceed customer service targets in a dynamic environment.
  • Prepare and present both written and verbal communication and updates to employees, colleagues, and senior leadership.
  • Manage complex inbound and outbound transportation services, including establishing the evaluation matrix to award contracts that meet government procurement procedures. The delivery matrix requires adjustments throughout the year and must align with customer service standards.
  • Administer a health and safety management system that meets the requirements of the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and includes safe work instructions, standard operating procedures, and training requirements suitable for employees working in a safety-sensitive environment.
  • Manages the relationship with the landowner, the Global Transportation Hub (GTH), and represents SLGA on related matters.
  • Provide input into the Warehouse Management System (WMS) software and the related hardware. This includes assisting in determining current and future technology needs for the DC and planning for upgrades and ongoing maintenance.

  • Hire, train, mentor, and develop employees to build team capacity and support organizational success.
  • Develop, manage, and implement a comprehensive human resource plan. This includes setting the workforce complement, training, establishing operating hours with multiple shifts, and measuring employee performance in a unionized environment with approximately 70 employees.
  • Assign and oversee work to ensure timely and high-quality completion of responsibilities.
  • Promote and maintain a safe, healthy, and productive work environment for self and team.

Required Technical Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

  • A degree in Business Administration or a related field is preferred, complemented by 5 to 7 years of progressive leadership or management experience. Candidates without a degree may be considered where they bring equivalent leadership experience in warehouse, distribution, supply chain, or similar operational environments.
  • Experience in a supply chain, distribution, or warehousing leadership role would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a high-performance organization focused on developing a strong culture built on excellence, engagement, and organizational values.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a highly demanding, team-oriented, fast-paced environment, and to build, develop, and maintain strategic and effective working relationships.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including listening and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to motivate teams to deliver quality customer solutions and services within tight time frames.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop staff and positively influence the performance of others.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management capabilities, including strong analytical, and organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

This position may require minimal travel.
