The typical salary range for this role falls between $76023.00 - $101364.00 per annum commensurate with experience education and internal equity with future opportunities for performance-based pay and career progression. Job Description Summary:

People are at the core of Capilano Universitys success and the People Culture & Diversity (PCD) department supports this success through the planning development implementation and management of a broad range of human resources services. These services span recruitment development wellbeing compensation classification and collective agreement negotiation and administration. Additionally the PCD department provides oversight of employee engagement surveys and works with managers and employees to help foster opportunities that enhance engagement.

The Human Resources Advisor supports the work of the PCD department and HR Business Partner and is a key HR resource for managers directors deans exempt support staff and faculty within their assigned portfolio. The HR Advisor provides proactive and responsive professional human resources advice in the PCD functional areas of collective agreement administration recruitment and hiring performance management and improvement wellbeing learning and development attendance and abilities management evaluation and engagement succession planning and retention.

While significant use of critical thinking and independence of judgement is required collaboration and coordination with PCD Department colleagues other university employees and administrators and external service providers and government agencies more fully defines success in the role. The position reports to the HR Business Partner.

Job Description:

ILLUSTRATIVEEXAMPLESOFDUTIES

  • Provideshumanresourcesandlabourrelationsadviceguidanceandcollectiveagreement interpretation to administrators deans chairscoordinatorsand other employeesincludingmatters related torecruitment and selection leaves evaluations retirement often insensitiveandconfidentialsituations.

  • IncollaborationwiththeHRBusinessPartnerresearchesdevelopsandimplements humanresource strategies programs and processes which are aligned withthe Universitys strategic and operational goals andobjectives.

  • Supportsalloperationalmanagersinmeetingtheirresponsibilitiesintheconsistentapplication ofUniversitypolicies collective agreement obligations and adherence to all relevant government legislation/regulations.

  • Participates in University committeesrepresentingPCDand the employees within the operational areas within their assigned portfolio such as the employer/union Joint Standing Committee Occupational Health and Safety committee Wellness committee and others as.

  • Supports administrators in the Universitys hiring activitiesincluding:advising on and approving postings; guiding selection panel members on the collective agreement relevant policies procedures practices interview questions and formats; testing of technical skills; administers the processing of offers of employment regularization and confirms pay and benefit entitlement.

  • ResearchesandanalysesHRdatapreparesinformationandreportsrelatedtohumanresourcemanagement issues including staffing reductions regularization retention compensation absence paid and unpaid leaves wellness employee benefits and other human resources metricsandstatistics.Supportsactivitiesandcollationofinformationforcollectiveagreement bargaining negotiations as.

  • Creates andfacilitatesemployee orientation sessions across all employee groups within the portfolio providing essential information as part of the broader organization/department inductionprocessforfacultysupportstaffexemptstaffadministratorsandthesupervisors of student employees.

  • Develops guides forms factsheets andFAQsfor all employees within the staff facultyexemptand administrator groups for the HR pages on the intranet appointment letters supporting documentation employee handbook and orientation package.

  • Provides employees with advice and informationregardingperformance and professional development and careercounselling;andcreatesandfacilitatestrainingsessionsbasedonuniversityanddepartment operational needs.

  • Collaborates and coordinatesPCDactivities and processes with the HR Assistant and Payroll and Benefits Department related to hiring regularization various paid leaves layoffs retirement resignation and terminations ensuring accuracy and consistent application of policy. Notifies union representatives as. Conducts exit interviews.

  • Coordinates withpeopleanalyticsfacilitators to collate review andanalyzedatapreparesreports in support of policiesprogramsand practices ensuring alignment between strategic goals operational plansand activities.

  • Advocates for a respectful work environment amongst all employees and advises managers with regards to strategies and good practice in employee engagement and collaborative employee relations that support the Universitys vision mission and core values.

  • Worksclosely with theHR Abilities Managementby addressing inquiries related to abilities management activities. Assumes responsibility in the absence of theHR Abilities Managementensuring the consistent application of the collective agreement and responding to queriesregardingthe insured benefit claims process.

  • Works closely withHRAbilities Managementto provideinformationandliaisewithPayrollandtheInsurerregardingemployeeinsured benefits WCB ICBCandensures the Abilities Management database is updated as.

  • Maybetotaketrainingandactinthecapacityofafloorwardenaspartofthe Universitys emergency preparedness plan (Fire WHIMIS Earthquakeetc).

  • Performsotherdutiesrelatedtotherequirementsandqualificationsoftheposition.

REQUIREDKNOWLEDGEABILITIESANDSKILLS

  • Demonstratedexpertiseintheobjectivespoliciespracticesprocessesandoperational functions of an effective centralized human resource management department.

  • ConsiderableknowledgeofapplicableemploymentlegislationsuchastheEmployment Standards ActLabourRelations Code HumanRights Act.

  • Demonstrated experience with office and recruiting technologies including Microsoft Office web-based applications Workday applicant tracking systems (ATS) LinkedIn Recruiter and tools for data extraction and process analysis.

  • Clearlyevidencedexperienceintheinterpretationapplicationreviewanddevelopmentof collective agreements.

  • Significantknowledgeandexperienceinrecruitmentandtalentdevelopmentandactivities that supporta holistic approachto people management employee development and retention and divisional/departmental workforce planning.

  • Solid understanding of the application of job classification plans preferably within a unionized department including the writing of job descriptions assessment of work responsibilitiesevaluationofdutiesandresponsibilitiesandrecognitionofemployee expectations and managing effective communications.

REQUIREDTRAININGANDEXPERIENCE

Additional Details:

The anticipated hiring range is $76023 to $88000 annually. Placement within the range will be based on the successful candidates qualifications experience and alignment with internal equity.

HOURS OF WORK

Our standard work week is Monday to Friday 8:30am 4:00pm or dependent on the needs of the department.

This position is a temporary full-time assignment with an anticipated duration of 13 months.
