Job description

You will be part of one of APIs most important projects the Canadian Critical Drug Initiative (CCDI). The CCDI is a project led by API in partnership with the University of Alberta. It aims to establish an integrated research commercialization and manufacturing cluster in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region.


Part of the project is the Critical Medicines Production Centre (CMPC) which will be a new 83000 square-foot manufacturing facility located on a 7-acre plot of land in the center of the Edmonton Research Park. This facility is set to be Canadas largest and best-equipped of its kind. The CMPCs focus will be on producing small-molecule product solutions conducting sterile aseptic fill and finishing traditional and biologic drugs to meet drug shortages needs.


We are seeking a hands-on Industrial Millwright/Electrician to support the installation commissioning startup maintenance troubleshooting repair and continuous improvement of GMP manufacturing equipment and facility systems.


The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing operations by ensuring equipment remains safe reliable compliant and available for production. The position will work closely with Operations Engineering Validation Automation and Quality teams throughout equipment lifecycle activities including commissioning qualification support preventative maintenance corrective maintenance troubleshooting equipment modifications and operational readiness.


The Industrial Millwright/Electrician will support a wide range of pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment including filling systems autoclaves inspection machines packaging equipment process tanks CIP/SIP systems and supporting facility infrastructure.


This is a highly hands-on role requiring strong mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting skills attention to detail and the ability to work safely within a regulated GMP environment.

** Please note this position requires full-time on-site presence.



Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting

  • Perform preventative predictive and corrective maintenance activities on GMP manufacturing equipment and facility systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical electrical pneumatic hydraulic and electromechanical equipment.
  • Diagnose equipment failures and implement effective corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Support production operations by responding to equipment breakdowns and operational issues.
  • Perform equipment inspections and condition monitoring to identify potential reliability issues.
  • Maintain equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations maintenance procedures and GMP requirements.
  • Document maintenance activities accurately within the sites maintenance management system (CMMS).


Mechanical and Process Systems

  • Interpret and review:
  • P&IDs Process Flow Diagrams Mechanical Drawings
  • Equipment Layouts Utility Drawings
  • Control System Architecture Drawings
  • Support pharmaceutical systems including:
  • Process Tanks CIP/SIP Systems
  • Autoclaves Filling Equipment Inspection Equipment Packaging Equipment
  • Material Handling Systems
  • Assist with equipment modifications optimization projects and engineering improvements.


Manufacturing Operations Support

  • Maintain and troubleshoot pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment including:
    • Filling machines
    • Inspection systems
    • Autoclaves
    • Packaging equipment
    • Labeling systems
    • Conveyors and material handling equipment
    • Process tanks and mixing systems
    • CIP systems
    • SIP systems
    • Pumping and transfer systems
  • Support equipment setup product changeovers and operational readiness activities.
  • Assist Operations with equipment adjustments and optimization activities.
  • Support root cause investigations for recurring equipment issues.



Electrical & Controls Support (Journeyman Electrician Focus)

  • Perform troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems motors sensors control panels instrumentation and field devices.
  • Assist with troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment HMIs VFDs and servo-driven systems.
  • Support calibration activities and replacement of instrumentation components.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics wiring diagrams and control drawings.


Mechanical Maintenance Support (Journeyman Millwright Focus)

  • Perform precision alignment assembly installation repair and overhaul of manufacturing equipment.
  • Maintain pumps valves gearboxes agitators mechanical seals conveyors and rotating equipment.
  • Perform equipment disassembly inspection rebuilds and reinstallation activities.
  • Support equipment upgrades and mechanical modifications.



Qualifications - (Education Certification Degree Skills Knowledge etc.)


Education

  • Journeyman Millwright or Industrial Electrician or Instrumentation certification required
  • Technical diploma or certification in Industrial Maintenance Electrical Technology Instrumentation Mechanical Technology or related field is considered an asset.
  • Valid drivers license and ability to travel as required.


Experience:

  • 37 years of maintenance experience within pharmaceutical biotechnology food beverage medical device or other regulated manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining and troubleshooting manufacturing equipment utilities and facility systems.
  • Experience with pharmaceutical equipment such as filling lines autoclaves packaging equipment inspection systems process tanks CIP/SIP systems and conveyors is strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting equipment commissioning startup FAT/SAT and qualification activities is considered an asset.
  • Experience working within GMP environments and following maintenance documentation requirements is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs equipment manuals mechanical drawings electrical schematics and technical documentation.
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is an asset.
  • Familiarity with PLC-controlled equipment HMIs VFDs instrumentation and automation systems is considered an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Required travel between Edmonton API sites
  • Exposure to chemicals machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to safely perform site visits and inspections including walking on uneven terrain climbing stairs/ladders stranding/walking for extended periods and occasional lifting.
