Summary

Under the guidance of the Resident Care Manager and in close collaboration with a diverse healthcare team the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) delivers top-notch nursing care to long-term care residents in addition to providing emotional comfort and support to residents and their families. LPNs in long-term care have the unique opportunity to build deep and lasting relationships with residents/families/caregivers collaborate with a compassionate and knowledgeable interdisciplinary care team and contribute to an overall sense of home for residents. This meaning is embodied by staff and residents of this 3-storey 110 bed long term care home located in Burnaby. A joint operation between Providence Health Care and Fraser Health Chenchenstway attracts staff who are open-minded adaptable and who thrive in challenging situations where leadership and innovative problem-solving is required.

Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratio

Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratios (mNPR) set the minimum number of nurses required to safely care for patients on a given unit. Developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health the BC Nurses Union (BCNU) and health organizations across British Columbia mNPR provides a consistent and transparent approach to staffing that supports safe nursing practice and high-quality patient care. What You Bring

Education:

  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education training and experience
  • Registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant
  • Current basic cardiac life support certification

Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • Ability to apply decision making and analytical skills
  • Ability to role model conflict resolution strategies
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work
  • Ability to teach and identify patient/resident learning needs

Your Day to Day

  • Provide safe and respectful nursing care adhering to established policies individualized care plans and priorities
  • Conduct thorough assessments monitor signs/symptoms and communicate with the RN/RPN as needed
  • Prepare patients for procedures transfers and admissions coordinating with the interdisciplinary team
  • Administer medications per protocol monitor effects and maintain communication with the team
  • Utilize evidence-based resources to stay updated on nursing practices
  • Respond to incidents such as codes injuries spills and alarms following procedures
  • Assist with staff orientation demonstrating procedures and providing support
  • Address patient/resident and family learning needs provide educational materials and make referrals
  • Attend care planning meetings provide input and advocate for patients/residents
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and evaluate individualized care plans
  • Assist with discharge planning based on patient status and external supports
  • Operate and clean equipment report malfunctions and handle hazardous materials. Perform clerical duties such as answering phones faxing and maintaining records
