Department: Office of Equity Diversity & Inclusion
Hours: 35 hours per week (1) one hour lunch; Mon Fri (8:30 am 4:30 pm; evening and/or weekend work required on occasion)
Reporting To: Director Equity Diversity and Inclusion
Campus Location: Oshawa primarily Whitby 1 day/week

Duties and Responsibilities:
EDI ProgramCoordinator role is intended to support the Office of Equity Diversity andInclusion (OEDI) to 1) lead the Colleges efforts to nurture a sense ofbelonging for equity-deserving students attending/thinking of attending DC and2) increase the capacity of DCs students to help foster a culture of inclusionand belonging where all students faculty and staff are safe fromdiscrimination harassment hate and violence; and have equitable access toopportunities.

Provide1:1 Navigation Support & Case Management to Equity-Deserving Students:

  • Enhance and maintain relevant case management documentation
  • Provide emotional support campus and community services navigation referrals and warm handovers and advocacy as appropriate
  • Maintain and enhance community-resources list (website list) and associated hard copy materials

Deliverthe Mentorship Program for Identity-based Student Groups:

  • Collaborate with Durham College Student Association (DCSA) to provide mentorship to identity-based student groups on internal group development recruitment & retention succession planning advocacy within College system and widersociety human rights capacity building facilitating partnerships and data collection
  • Support identity-based student groups to curate community-care initiatives

Facilitatethe Student Human Rights Capacity Building Program:

  • Create educational and promotional content for the OEDI microsite and social media pertaining to OEDI services and resources days of awareness etc.
  • Collaborate with relevant departments across the College to deliver in-person programming (and development of associated materials) which promotes student awareness of the OEDI services and resources that support equity-deserving students
  • Develop and deliver interactive in-person learning opportunities

Outreachto Potential Students who are Equity-deserving:

  • Identify coordinate and/or facilitate outreach opportunities in collaboration with relevant departments across the College (e.g. facilitating workshop sessions as part of DC Open House and Program Information Night events; group-specific events/tours on campus; off campus events hosted by community partners)

Cultivate& Coordinate DC-Community Partnerships Relevant to Identity-based Students:

  • Coordinate the EDI Community of Practice consisting of community-based partners led by/serving equity-deserving communities in the Durham Region
  • Identify opportunities for community-DC partnerships that support DCs equity-deserving students and foster and support the connections needed to establish these partnerships.

Overseethe operations of Multi-Faith & Quiet Spaces including:

  • Connecting with users on an ongoing basis to understand needs share concerns for threats to inclusivity and collaboratively develop solutions;
  • Collaborate with campus community users tofacilitatebookings with support of DCSA;
  • Market the space to campus community usersvia social media

ProgramEvaluation:

  • Conduct knowledge gathering and documentation on the impact of all program activities to support development of departmental and institutional plans and reports including but not limited to: 1) Ontario Postsecondary Access and Inclusion Program (OPAIP) design and reporting for the Ministry of Colleges Universities Research Excellence and Security (MCURES); 2) Harassment & Discrimination Prevention and Response Annual Report; 4) DC Annual Business Plan; 5) OEDI Workplan

OtherRelated Duties as Required:

  • Support planning and administration related to activities/ responsibilities of the OEDI team;
  • Providesupport to student employees and placement students.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a 4-year degree in Social Sciences or Education. A Masters degree is preferred;
  • Minimum of three years of work experience within the Equity Diversity and Inclusion space in a capacity directly mentoring and working with students;
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and awareness of social identities;
  • Applying understanding of current social issues and the impact of those issues related to achieving an inclusive learning environment;
  • Experience working with and supporting equity-seeking groups including individuals impacted by mental health challenges;
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply relevant legislation and frameworks including the Ontario Human Rights Code Bill 166 and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA);
  • Experience building and maintaining effective relationships with community organizations service providers and other external partners;
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct literature reviews environmental scans and research activities to support program development evaluation and reporting;
  • Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders across a post-secondary environment;
  • Experience facilitating knowledge mobilization educational initiatives workshops or training programs;
  • Strong written communication skills including the preparation of reports briefing materials and presentations;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications including Word Excel PowerPoint Forms Teams and SharePoint; experience with Canva is considered an asset.
  • Ability to handle competing demands;
  • Preferable the incumbent will have training and/or certifications in:
    • Ontario Human Rights Code/Human Rights
    • Equity & Inclusion/Social Justice
    • Sexual or Gender-based Violence
    • Intercultural Communication
    • Crisis Intervention/Mental Health First Aid/Suicide intervention skills
    • Trauma-Informed practice
