This role ensures continuity across HR operations, employee relations, recruitment, payroll, and team support while maintaining stable and effective people practices aligned with company policies and business needs. The role will support HR operations across both Canadian and U.S. business units, ensuring consistent practices, compliance, and effective coordination of payroll and employee management activities in both jurisdictions. As a trusted business partner this position initially reports to the Vice President, Human Resources and subsequently to the Chief Executive Officer.

WHAT YOU'RE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and support to Human Resources and Payroll operations across Canada and the United States, ensuring effective delivery of HR services, payroll administration, and compliance with applicable legislation.
  • Partner with the organization's U.S. Professional Employer Organization (PEO) to support U.S.-based payroll, benefits, HR administration, and employment compliance.
  • Lead employee relations activities, including investigations, performance management, disciplinary matters, policy interpretation, and leadership coaching.
  • Provide oversight and direction for talent acquisition and workforce planning activities, ensuring recruitment, onboarding, and talent initiatives are effectively executed by the HR team in alignment with business needs.
  • Support performance management, succession planning, employee development, and learning programs to enhance organizational capability.
  • Oversee payroll operations, providing direction and approvals to ensure payroll administration is delivered accurately, efficiently and in compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Manage compensation and total rewards programs, including salary adjustments, compensation recommendations, benefits oversight, and related programs in alignment with business needs and budget objectives.
  • Ensure HR policies, practices, records, and processes are maintained in accordance with company standards and employment legislation in both Canada and the United States.
  • Support employee engagement and culture initiatives, reinforcing company values and assisting leaders through organizational and workforce changes.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders, providing practical HR guidance and solutions that support operational objectives and employee success.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPHR designation strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 10-12 years of progressive Human Resources experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading HR and/or Payroll professionals.
  • Strong and robust experience in employee relations, talent management, workforce planning, compensation, benefits, recruitment, and HR operations.
  • Experience supporting multi-site operations and complex organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian employment legislation; exposure to U.S. employment practices is required.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence, collaborate, and build relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Proven ability to balance multiple priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment.

Additional Skills & Attributes

  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
  • High integrity, professionalism, discretion, and emotional intelligence.
  • Collaborative and results-oriented approach with a commitment to inclusion and accountability.
  • Proficiency with HR information systems, payroll systems, and talent management platforms.
  • ADP Workforce Now experience is considered an asset.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

WHAT YOU STAND TO GAIN:

  • Opportunity to lead and support critical Human Resources and Payroll operations during a key leadership coverage period.
  • Exposure to both Canadian and U.S. HR practices within a growing, technology-enabled organization.
  • Work alongside experienced leaders and industry experts.
  • Competitive compensation
  • Paid vacation and company holidays.
  • Employee wellness and fitness program discounts.
  • Opportunity to make a meaningful impact on employee experience and organizational success.
