Overview

Are you a strategic, technology-savvy finance leader who excels at building strong relationships and leading high-performing teams? Do you have deep expertise in financial reporting, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, combined with a passion for driving innovation and transformation?

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Director, Corporate Finance provides leadership and direction for WorkSafeBC's Corporate Finance department and is responsible for ensuring sound financial stewardship across the organization. Supported by a team of senior managers, accountants and finance professionals, this role oversees financial accountability and reporting, corporate and divisional financial services, budgeting, project support, and industry funding management. The Director plays a critical role in supporting enterprise decision-making through accurate financial reporting, insightful analysis, strong accounting practices, and effective financial controls, while leading the department through an exciting period of finance transformation, continued modernization of financial processes, systems, and reporting capabilities.

This influential leadership role offers the opportunity to drive financial excellence, modernization, and transformation across one of WorkSafeBC's most critical corporate functions.

Where you'll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you will work primarily from our Richmond Office with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C.

What you'll do

  • Lead WorkSafeBC's Corporate Finance function, ensuring strong financial stewardship, accountability, and alignment with corporate and divisional priorities.
  • Provide strategic leadership for financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and internal controls to support informed decision-making across the organization.
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with IFRS and organizational accounting requirements.
  • Partner with executives, directors, and senior leaders to provide trusted financial advice, insights, and recommendations that support strategic and operational objectives.
  • Lead the corporate budgeting and financial planning processes, monitoring performance and identifying risks, opportunities, and emerging trends.
  • Champion finance transformation initiatives through process optimization, automation, innovation, and the effective use of technology.
  • Develop and implement financial policies, governance frameworks, and controls that safeguard organizational assets and support sound fiscal management.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop managers and finance professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and service excellence.
  • Contribute as a key member of the Assessments & Finance leadership team, participating in divisional strategy, planning, policy development, and enterprise decision-making.
  • Represent WorkSafeBC with internal and external stakeholders, preparing and presenting financial reports, analyses, and recommendations to senior leadership and governance bodies.

  • Exercise sound judgment, integrity, and leadership in managing financial and organizational risks.

Your background and experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, commerce, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience within large, complex organizations, including experience leading managers and professional teams.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading finance transformation, organizational change, and enterprise technology implementations.
  • Experience building strong cross-functional partnerships and influencing stakeholders at senior leadership and executive levels.
  • Experience within Crown corporations, public sector organizations, or similarly complex and regulated environments is considered a strong asset.
