About the Role

The Senior Director, Student Well-Being provides strategic and operational stewardship for a holistic, equity-minded, institution-wide approach to student well-being. The role leads Health and Counselling Services, the Multifaith Centre, and the Office of Student Support, Rights and Responsibilities, strengthening coordination across the portfolio.

Student well-being is integral to SFU’s academic mission: it supports students’ capacity to learn, participate fully in university life, experience belonging and connection, and succeed academically. Working collaboratively across the University, the Senior Director identifies systemic barriers and strengthens coordinated systems of support that help create these conditions.

The role also provides senior leadership in complex student matters, including case management and student conduct. It promotes approaches that are timely, procedurally fair, equity-minded, and student-centred, grounded in the understanding that accountability is an important part of student learning and development.

The ideal candidate is an experienced post-secondary student affairs leader who combines strategic vision with sound operational judgment. They are collaborative and relational, with demonstrated equity-minded leadership grounded in decolonial, trauma-informed and student-centred practice. They understand student well-being at a systems level and can identify systemic barriers and work across the institution to address them. They excel at leading across varied professional and regulatory contexts, supporting teams with clarity, care and accountability, and building alignment among diverse groups. They bring significant experience leading complex student case management and conduct processes, grounded in human rights, procedural fairness and the principles of natural justice.

Qualifications

Master's Degree in Business Administration, Education, or a related discipline and ten years of related experience which includes Student Affairs management, Student Enrolment management, financial administration, communications, policy and planning, personnel management and senior post-secondary administration OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

• Comprehensive knowledge of student development and student well-being, including the diverse needs and experiences of equity-deserving student populations.
• Strong understanding of the post-secondary environment, including university governance, policy, and institutional decision-making.
• Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into implementation, set clear direction, and assess whether programs and services are effectively responding to student needs.
• Sound judgment, discretion, and diplomacy in navigating urgent, sensitive, complex, and confidential matters and coordinating effective institutional responses.
• Strong knowledge of complex student case management and conduct processes, including human rights, procedural fairness, and the principles of natural justice.

The pay range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for the position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the pay range.
