Job description

Position Summary

The Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Centre is hiring a part-time Anti-Violence Support Worker to join our team. This person deliver up to 6 one-on-one support sessions to survivors who are interested in accessing supports before they are placed on the counselling waitlist. This includes adults of all genders who have experienced sexualized violence violence/abuse in relationships and/or childhood sexual abuse. The work will primarily be in person at the KSACC office. It may be phone- or virtually-based if requested by the survivor. This is not a counselling position. The overarching goal of the position is to provide timely service positive social responses and relevant supports and resources to survivors in an effort to alleviate some of the burden of waiting for one-on-one counselling.


Schedule and Compensation

This is a part-time role at 14 hours per for this position is $31.80/hour with regular increases as funding permits. We currently have funding for one year though we are working to secure additional funding.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one support to survivors interested in accessing counselling at KSACC including safety planning sharing information grounding and coping techniques connecting to other programs or services completing paperwork providing psychoeducation etc.
  • Assess and respond to survivor needs in an ongoing manner
  • Conduct referrals to and/or advocacy with other community service providers as necessary.
  • Maintain statistics and participate in program evaluations that adhere to funder and agency requirements.
  • Participate in staff meetings job evaluation and other Agency-related forms of supervision and participation as required.
  • Perform other related duties as required by the Agency Coordinator and Crisis Response Coordinator.

Qualifications Required

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field: Human Services Diploma Bachelors Degree (womens or gender studiessocial work sociology psychology)or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Experience working with folks who have experienced violence or adversity
  • Experience working (or volunteering) in crisis or highly sensitive contexts
  • Experience developing community relationships and/or programming is an asset
  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal record check with vulnerable populations

Knowledge Skills and Assets

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of intersectional feminist practice;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of sexualized violence;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed practice;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Indigenous contexts cultures and decolonial practice;
  • Capacity to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds;
  • Excellent communication and professional boundary skills (written and oral);
  • Demonstrated capacity to adhere to privacy and confidentiality legislation and guidelines;
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
