Position Information:

Durham College is seeking an experiencedand motivated professional who shares our commitment to quality and studentsuccess. The Faculty of Liberal Studies requires apart-time professor to teach Communication Foundations courses in-person at theNorth Oshawa or Whitby campuses. Communication Foundations courses helpstudents develop and practice the fundamental skills and competencies necessaryto communicate in a variety of contexts in their chosen field of study.

Academicstarting wages are determined based on qualifications and years of relatedexperience. Upon hire the incumbent will receive a pay calculation todetermine their step placement within the pay range. Part-time professorswill be paid on the applicable wage grid which currently ranges from $80.62through $139.88 per teaching contact hour.

Please takespecial note: Part-time faculty teach up to 6 hours per week with variedschedules Monday through Thursday between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm and Fridaysbetween 8:00 am and 6:00 -time recruitmentis ongoing and is dependent on when courses are being taught and the need forfaculty to teach. Course assignments are based on scheduling andinstructional needs.

The responsibilities of Durham College Part-Time Professors include but are not limited to:

  • Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students diverse cultural and educational backgrounds experiences and individual learning styles;
  • Utilizing principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
  • Effectively using educational technologies to support learning manage and post grades and deliver hybrid and online courses;
  • Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
  • Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
  • Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
  • Working effectively with students the programteam and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:

  • A relevant and completed Masters degree (relevant PhD is an asset). A professional designation is an asset.
  • A minimum of four years of relevant work experience.
  • A minimum of three years of recent teaching experience at the post-secondary level (either university or college). Teaching in and knowledge of Ontarios college system is a definite asset.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and current assessment methodologies is required. TESOL Certification and experience working with EAL learners is an asset.
  • Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first.
  • Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students faculty support staff administrators and community stakeholders.
