Position Information:

Durham College is seeking an experiencedand motivated professional who shares our commitment to quality and studentsuccess. The Faculty of Social and Community Services requires a part-timeprofessor to teach in the Honours Bachelor of Paralegal program available courses are currently:

Criminal Justice System and Summary Conviction
Courtroom and Tribunal Advocacy: Weekly Mock Trials
Methods and Strategies for Alternative Dispute Resolution
Paralegal Practice Management
Provincial Offences: Prosecution and Defense
Indigenous Perspectives on Canadian Law

Part-time faculty teach up to 6 hours perweek with varied schedules Mondaythrough Thursday between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm and Fridays between 8:00 am and6:00 -time recruitment is ongoingand is dependent on when courses are being taught and the need for faculty toteach. Course assignments are based on scheduling and instructional needs.

Academic starting wages are determined based onqualifications and years of related experience. Upon hire the incumbent willreceive a pay calculation to determine their step placement within the payrange. Part-time professors will be paid on the applicable post-secondary wagegrid which currently ranges from $80.62 through $139.88 per teaching contacthour.

• Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students diverse cultural and educational backgrounds experiences and individual learning styles;
  
• Utilizing principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
  
• Effectively using educational technologies to support learning manage and post grades and deliver hybrid and on-line courses;
  
• Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
  
• Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
  
• Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
• Working effectively with students the program team and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

1. A Master of Laws (LLM) degree required.
   
2. A current licensee with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO).
   
3. A minimum of three years of practice experience in the subject area as LSO licensee.
   
4. A minimum of three years of recent teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and current assessment methodologies.
   
5. Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
   
6. Demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first.
   
7. Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
   
8. Proven track record of life-long learning.
   
9. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students faculty support staff administrators and community stakeholders.
   
10. Understanding of the Ontario college system.
