Position Information:
Durham College is seeking an experiencedand motivated professional who shares our commitment to quality and studentsuccess. The Faculty of Social and Community Services requires a part-timeprofessor who possesses a PhD to develop and teach the following courses;

  • Community Needs Assessment
  • Community Implementation & Evaluation
  • Community Mental Health Policy
  • Advanced Social Psychology
  • Abnormal Psychology
  • Introduction to Mental Health

Part-time faculty teach up to 6 hours per week with variedschedules Monday through Thursday between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm and Fridaysbetween 8:00 am and 6:00 -time recruitment is ongoing and isdependent on when courses are being taught and the need for faculty to teach. Course assignments are based on schedulingand instructional needs.

Academic starting wages are determined based onqualifications and years of related experience. Upon hire the incumbent willreceive a pay calculation to determine their step placement within the payrange. Part-time professors will be paid on the applicable wage grid whichcurrently ranges from $80.62 through $139.88 per teaching contact hour.

Theresponsibilities of Durham College Part-time Professors include but are notlimited to:

  • Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students diverse cultural and educational backgrounds experiences and individual learning styles;
  • Utilizing principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
  • Effectively using educational technologies to support learning manage and post grades and deliver hybrid and online courses;
  • Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning including but not limited to course content interactive class activities test / quizzes / exams assessments and rubrics
  • Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
  • Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
  • Working effectively with students the program team and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

Theideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:

  • A relevant PhD in Psychology or Social Work. A professional designation is an asset.
  • A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience.
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design forLearning and current assessment methodologies.
  • Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first.
  • Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
  • Proven track record of life-long learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students faculty support staff administrators and community stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the Ontario college system.
