POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director, Medical Affairs, Education, and LHEARN and working closely with the Manager, Medical Affairs and Manager, Education & LHEARN, the Business & Financial Strategy Lead (the "Lead") provides portfolio-level leadership, ownership, and subject matter expertise for credentialed staff payments, funding models, contract management, budget oversight, revenue optimization, and financial sustainability across Medical Affairs, Education, and LHEARN. The Lead is accountable for leading and managing the structures, systems, and controls that support credentialed staff compensation, medical leadership stipends, academic and learner-related funding, Ministry and externally funded programs, and LH-managed funding arrangements, ensuring these functions are accurate, compliant, sustainable, and aligned with organizational priorities. This includes full lifecycle leadership of credentialed staff, learner, academic, and funding agreements, including drafting, monitoring, reporting, renewals, risk identification, escalation, and resolution to support compliance, continuity, and effective stewardship of organizational resources. Working across Medical Affairs, Education, LHEARN, Finance, academic partners, and medical leadership, the Lead ensures funding is strategically managed, fully leveraged, and translated into sound business planning, sustainable medical workforce models, academic growth, learner program support, revenue stabilization, and high-quality patient care. The Lead serves as the key liaison with Finance and a trusted portfolio resource for complex credentialed staff, academic, learner, LHEARN, funding, contractual, and payment matters, providing guidance, resolving issues, strengthening processes, and ensuring reliable reporting, reconciliation, forecasting, and decision support. Given the financial, contractual, operational, and reputational impact of these functions, the Lead proactively identifies risks such as contract expiries, funding misalignment, payment discrepancies, reporting gaps, and funding losses; escalates issues appropriately; and ensures the integrity and continuity of critical Medical Affairs, Education, and LHEARN processes. As one of the organization's fastest-growing strategic portfolios, Medical Affairs, Education, and LHEARN continue to evolve in response to changing healthcare, academic, workforce, funding, and organizational priorities. Accordingly, the responsibilities of this position are expected to evolve over time to support emerging organizational needs, opportunities, and strategic objectives, while remaining aligned with the overall purpose and scope of the role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead identification, evaluation, and implementation support for funding opportunities, revenue-generating initiatives, cost-recovery programs, and alternative funding models across Medical Affairs, Education, and LHEARN.
  • Develop business cases, financial analyses, return-on-investment assessments, sustainability plans, and recommendations to support strategic initiatives, program growth, and resource allocation decisions.
  • Monitor Ministry, academic, healthcare, educational, innovation, grant, and external funding opportunities and lead the coordination of submissions, reporting, compliance requirements, and partner follow-up as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, including academic partners, foundations, healthcare organizations, government agencies, industry, and funding bodies, to maximize available funding and support sustainable portfolio growth.
  • Lead financial administration, invoicing, reconciliation, reporting, and performance monitoring for LHEARN-generated revenue streams, including simulation services, educational programming, facility utilization, academic activities, continuing professional development initiatives, and other cost-recovery programs.
  • Participate in annual operating and capital budget planning across the portfolio and monitor budgets, forecasts, expenditures, commitments, and variances, providing recommendations to optimize financial performance.
  • Develop financial models, forecasting tools, dashboards, business intelligence reporting, and performance indicators related to funding utilization, revenue generation, financial sustainability, and operational effectiveness.
  • Partner with Finance, medical leadership, Education, LHEARN, Legal, Risk, and operational leaders to align funding, physician workforce planning, academic priorities, learner programs, business planning, and program needs.
  • Lead coordination and communication of physician vendor record changes, including address, name, status, and payment-related updates, with Finance and Payroll partners to support accurate vendor records, payments, reporting, and year-end T4A processes.
  • Lead or support special projects related to funding model implementation, learner funding optimization, physician compensation models, academic partnership initiatives, revenue generation, business process improvement, automation, data integrity, and strategic portfolio priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Health Administration, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years' experience in a business, financial, analytical, contract administration, or healthcare administration role preferred, preferably within a hospital or healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading contract administration activities, including drafting, tracking, lifecycle management, compliance monitoring, and risk escalation.
  • Demonstrated experience with physician or credentialed staff compensation models, healthcare funding structures, Ministry-funded programs, or external funding agreements such as AFA/AFPs strongly preferred.
  • Experience preparing business cases, financial analyses, forecasts, funding proposals, sustainability plans, and resource allocation recommendations.
  • Experience managing operational budgets, financial planning processes, forecasting, variance analysis, funding reconciliation, reporting, and compliance activities.
  • Experience identifying, evaluating, and implementing funding opportunities, revenue generation initiatives, cost-recovery models, process improvements, or automation opportunities.
  • Experience supporting academic medicine, medical education, learner funding programs, academic partnerships, grant administration, or healthcare funding programs considered a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of Ontario healthcare funding environments, including MOH programs, HOCC/BBOC, AFA/AFP, OHIP, academic funding, and educational funding models, preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead high-risk, detail-sensitive processes where accuracy, timeliness, judgment, escalation, and accountability for outcomes are critical.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to identify trends, resolve discrepancies, manage competing priorities, and communicate complex financial information clearly.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively with physicians, leaders, academic partners, Finance, Payroll, and corporate partners, both internally and externally.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including advanced expertise in Excel and Teams, with experience using databases, reporting systems, financial tracking tools, and ability to learn new systems quickly.

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Leadership and ownership of complex financial, contractual, funding, and payment functions.
  • Subject matter expertise in physician payments, credentialed staff contracts, funding structures, and healthcare financial administration.
  • Strategic financial planning, business analysis, financial modelling, forecasting, and business case development.
  • Revenue generation, funding optimization, cost recovery, and financial sustainability.
  • Budget management, financial stewardship, performance measurement, reporting, and analytics.
  • Risk awareness, sound judgment, proactive problem identification, and timely escalation.
  • Innovation, continuous improvement, automation, and enhanced data integrity.
  • Collaboration and relationship-building across clinical, academic, operational, and corporate teams.
  • Adaptability, service excellence, and accountability within a complex and evolving funding environment.
