Great storytelling doesn't just describe a community - it helps build one. At Edmonton Community Foundation, we're looking for an exceptional writer and creative communicator who can turn complex ideas into clear, compelling stories: stories that connect people, inspire generosity and share lasting impact. This role spans content creation and management across digital, print, video, audio and social, as well as supporting internal communications and media relations. If you thrive in a collaborative environment and want your work to genuinely strengthen your community, we'd love to hear from you.

ABOUT EDMONTON COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

Edmonton is a city shaped by people who care deeply about their community. Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF) exists to harness that generosity - connecting donors, charities and community partners to enrich lives and build a vibrant city, now and for generations to come.

Each year, ECF distributes more than $44 million in grants and scholarships, made possible through the generosity of over 2,600 donors. Through more than 1,750 endowed funds representing over $1 billion in assets under management, ECF has granted more than $480 million to the community since 1990.

As the largest non-governmental funder of Edmonton's charitable sector, ECF plays a unique role in identifying emerging community needs and directing resources where they can have the greatest impact. By working collaboratively with donors, nonprofits, volunteers, government, and community leaders, ECF helps ensure Edmonton continues to grow as an inclusive, resilient, and thriving community.

The Opportunity

The Communications Coordinator reports to the Manager, Communications and plays an important role in sharing the stories, impact and initiatives of Edmonton Community Foundation with donors, grantees, community partners and the broader public. As part of our close-knit six-person Marketing and Communications team, you'll contribute to a wide range of projects, collaborate closely with colleagues across the organization, and see your direct impact across the community. Through compelling written and digital content and thoughtful coordination, you will help strengthen ECF's voice across owned and internal communications channels.

This role is ideal for a Communications generalist who is an exceptional writer, enjoys managing multiple projects, is deadline-driven and works well across teams to identify, develop and share ECF's impact - and the people and partners who make it possible.

In this role, you'll gain hands-on experience across a full spectrum of nonprofit communications - from storytelling and media relations to digital content, publications, podcasts, donor communications and internal communications. This role provides an excellent foundation for someone looking to grow their communications career while developing a broad and well-rounded skill set alongside experienced Marketing and Communications professionals.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Development & Storytelling

  • Write compelling content for a variety of communications channels, ensuring messaging is clear, engaging, and aligned with ECF's brand and strategic priorities.
  • Develop donor stewardship communications, including impact stories, fund reports and other materials that celebrate donor impact.
  • Draft grant announcements, community impact stories, and other communications that highlight the work of ECF's charitable partners.
  • Write scripts for video and podcast projects, supporting storytelling across digital platforms.
  • Draft press releases, media advisories and other communications materials under the direction of the Manager, Communications.

Digital Communications

  • Manage ECF's day-to-day social media presence across Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, including content scheduling, publishing, community engagement, and monitoring.
  • Draft, coordinate approvals for, and distribute newsletters and other external email communications.
  • Update and maintain website content using ECF's content management system, ensuring pages remain current, accurate and aligned with ECF's brand.
  • Maintain and coordinate the editorial calendar to ensure timely and consistent communications across all channels.
  • Monitor media coverage and maintain media contact lists to support media relations activities.

Publications & Multimedia

  • Coordinate podcast production activities, including scheduling guests, liaising with production vendors and supporting episode promotion.
  • Provide production support for ECF's magazine, including coordinating content, proofreading, reviewing layouts, and assisting with publication schedules.
  • Support the planning and coordination of photography, video, and other multimedia projects as required.

Internal Communications & Team Support

  • Draft internal communications, including staff announcements, leadership messages and intranet content.
  • Coordinate content approvals with internal subject matter experts and external partners to ensure communications are accurate and timely.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization to identify and communicate stories that demonstrate ECF's impact.
  • Provide additional communications and administrative support to the Marketing and Communications team as required.

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone who is equal parts storyteller, organizer and collaborator. You enjoy writing and creating content for different audiences, balancing multiple projects, and finding creative ways to communicate meaningful work.

You'll be successful in this role if you have:

  • A diploma or degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Approximately 2-4 years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism, content marketing, or a related field.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to adapt your voice for different audiences and communication channels.
  • Experience managing organizational social media accounts and creating engaging digital content.
  • Experience working with content management systems, email marketing platforms, and social media scheduling tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, community partners, vendors, and external stakeholders.
  • Photography, video production, graphic design, or Adobe Creative Suite experience is an asset.

What we Offer

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, professional development opportunities and a supportive work environment including:

  • Salary Range: $56,218 - $66,138/year.
  • A 35-hour standard work week.
  • Downtown work location with free parking available.
  • Extended Health, Dental and Short/Long Term Disability Benefits, Life Insurance and a Health Spending Account.
  • A 9% contribution to our group RRSP.
  • A hybrid work environment where employees collaborate on site a minimum of 3 days per week with the flexibility to work remotely up to 2 days per week.
  • Vacation starts at three weeks per year.
  • 12 combined personal and sick days.
