Your Role

You plan and organize field and in-studio production for all digital, audio and visual content across Radio-Canada Alberta. In this role, you directly supervise the Alberta Operations team, supporting leadership in achieving objectives while cultivating an agile, positive and innovative management culture.

You also provide technical and production guidance to program and content areas. You collaborate with stakeholders and management to conceive, analyze and develop production methods and processes for meeting established content production requirements. You are responsible for ensuring work adheres to CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic and program policies, standards and practices. There is wide latitude for initiative, independent judgment and creativity.

You will report to and work under the direction of the Senior Operations Manager. However, you must be a strong self-starter in driving innovation, establishing workflows, navigating team dynamics and resolving operational challenges.

Key Tasks:

  • Lead and support the Alberta Operations team through regular touchpoints, performance reviews and ongoing professional coaching.
  • Contribute to the vision of an integrated operations team by helping plan and organize Radio-Canada Alberta’s regular and special programming while sharing technical and operational expertise.
  • Partner with CBC teams and the Operations Specialist to schedule, co-ordinate, assign and oversee Operations personnel, production resources, vehicles and facilities, bringing creative concepts to life within established budget targets.
  • Help set priorities and balance competing production and business requirements within budgetary restrictions and production deadlines.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to operational, content development and newsroom staff on workflow optimization and best practices for implementing field and studio technology.
  • Collaborate with management on matters relating to hiring and discipline in a unionized environment.
  • In collaboration with leadership, identify, approve, co-ordinate and take part in training initiatives to meet staff needs and production requirements; implement and/or participate in the implementation of technical training for the entire team.
  • Collaborate closely with local CBC Operations and Maintenance teams and other CBC/Radio-Canada production centres to ensure production systems are kept in proper working order and production personnel receive adequate technological support.
  • Oversee all field equipment, including ENG camera kits, multi-content field gathering kits and audio remote packages.
  • Cost and purchase any necessary equipment.

As assigned or required, may perform any or all of the following tasks:

  • Perform all or part of the function or duties of equivalent or lower classifications.
  • Within delegated limits, hire staff for casual requirements.
  • Participate in the preparation and administration of departmental and program financial estimates, budgets and forecasts and help ensure they are on target.

This role requires full-time on-site presence.

What You Bring:

  • University degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a directly related field.
  • Proven formal and informal leadership skills in facilitating team collaboration.
  • Ability to lead meetings, projects, innovation and change.
  • Excellent understanding of the business and production aspects of programming and media production.
  • Creative approach to ensuring the development and implementation of new strategies, work methods and business practices.
  • Ability to establish strong business relationships with co-workers and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in French (working language); knowledge of English essential.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the next

step will be asked to complete a background check. This includes:

  • A mandatory Criminal record check.

  • Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.
