Job Summary

The team works together to ensure effective, efficient and safe performance for the operation, maintenance and repair of campus buildings.
Reporting to the Carpentry Supervisor, the carpenter / locksmith provides journeyman level skills in carpentry with particular emphasis on the repair, maintenance and installation of locks and associated hardware.
The Carpenter / Locksmith shall conform to all best trade practices in relation to UVic, compliance with industry standards of work and behaviors, including Worksafe BC regulations and applicable codes.
Job Requirements
A minimum of five years’ experience at the journeyman level. Experience must include:
- Repair, maintenance, and installation of door locks and closers;
- developing key schedules for buildings;
- applying knowledge of building codes and practices;
- use and maintenance of required tools of the trade; and,
- production of high quality products and a high level of customer service with efficient use of available resources.
Equivalent combinations of training, education and/or experience may be considered.
Requires sufficient strength, stamina and coordination to perform a variety of routine, heavy, manual tasks and to be able to operate equipment and use tools or machines continuously in an outdoor environment in all types of weather conditions.
Operational hours and service requirement require willingness to work any recognized shift including weekends.
