The OrganizationThe Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion (BACI) is a large nonprofit organization supporting children, youth,and adults with developmental disabilities. With an annual budget of over $45M and 600 employees, BACI provides person-centered services to over 1,000 individuals and their families across Metro Vancouver each year. The primary funding partners are Community Living British Columbia (CLBC), BC Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) and BC Housing. BACI provides a wide range of training, development, social, recreational, and employment opportunities. Key services for adults include community inclusion, economic inclusion (employment services & training), life sharing, supportedhousing, family support, subsidized housing, co-housing, and outreach & self-advocacy. BACI also operates 5 accessible childcare centers, an infant development program and youth more about BACI's Mission, Vision, and Values on their website. The Opportunity Senior Accountant BACI is seeking an individual who is innovative, hard-working, experienced, and solution-focused for temporary position with expectation of a two-month parallel training timeline beginning as early as August 2026. This temporary position will end March 31st, 2028. Under the direction of the Financial Reporting Manager and the Finance Manager, the Senior Accountant will provide support for the organization’s strategic financial initiatives, prepare key analysis and forecasting information along with participating in process creation and review. BACI is headquartered in Burnaby and the Senior Accountant will work a hybrid work schedule. Senior Accountant participates in the review of work and reporting completed by staff accountants, liaise with external parties on behalf of BACI and creation of complex journal entries and inputs into the accounting system. Senior Accountant will work closely with the Finance Manager and Financial Reporting Manager and provide timely reports on behalf of the department as required as well as provide support to the finance department and organization as needed.Responsibilities The Senior Accountant’s main responsibilities include but are not limited to:  Prepare monthly and year-end general ledger close process, including complex journal entries,reconciling accounts, and ensuring accurate, complete, and timely financial reporting Assist with preparation internal financial statements and key operational performance reports formanagement, providing clear insights into financial results and business drivers Conduct advanced variance analysis, investigating fluctuations and identifying key drivers impactingfinancial performance, with actionable recommendations Prepare and submit financial reports and regulatory filings required by external regulators and interestedparties, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all applicable requirements Contribute to the monthly review of junior staff entries into the system report preparation Support the Finance team by maintaining asset schedules, preparing detailed working papers, andcontributing to the successful completion of the external audit process Respond to inquiries and requests from operational teams, providing timely, accurate, and agency
focused support Support the development of junior team members by knowledge sharing, and informal coaching to buildteam capability Assistance in preparing the annual budget alongside the Financial Reporting ManagerThe successful candidate must demonstrate the following qualifications:  Knowledge of non-profit accounting practices, funding, reporting, and accountability measures Experience in budget preparation and financial management is an asset Advanced knowledge of and experience using excel, word and accounting software, experience withSAGE Intacct preferred. Experience with accounts payable, receivable, reconciliations, information management, and generalunderstanding of payroll systems Experience with preparing reports to regulatory bodies is preferred Excitement and passion for working in a diverse workplace Work collaboratively with others, but also able to work independently Aware of confidentiality practices, including legal requirements about personal information as well asdata capturing and storage Strong communication skills, including written and verbal; Open and positive communication with allareas of the organization Ability to work with a variety of community partners, funders, and supports Demonstrates good judgment, ability to think critically, and to solution seek Passionate about and committed to the values of community inclusion and belonging Able to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekendsCredentials: CPA designation preferred or close to completion Minimum of 3 years of financial systems-related experience or full cycle accounting experience in asenior role Experience with working with contract revenue or complex financial structures is an asset. Clear Criminal Records Search and other requirements as per BACI’s interview and hiring policyCompensation will be negotiated based on a combination of education, experience, and overall suitability. Compensation of this position is inclusive of annual salary, 100% employer paid extended health and welfare benefits and paid time off.
