Job Description:
Estimate amount and costs of supplies and food items.
Estimate labour costs.
Maintain records of food costs, consumption, sales and inventory.
Create new recipes.
Instruct cooks in preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of food.
Supervise cooks and other kitchen staff.
Prepare and cook food on a regular basis, or for special guests or functions.
Prepare and cook meals or specialty foods.
Requisition food and kitchen supplies.
Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances.
Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food.
Leading/instructing individuals.
Requirements
Education: Completion of high school is required
Experience: A minimum of 4 years of experience as a cook is required. In the event that the candidate does not have 4 years of experience then equivalent credentials, training OR cook’s trade certificate is required.
Supervisory experience in commercial food preparation as a sous-chef, specialist chef or chef is required.
Ability to supervise at least 5 workers.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Fast-paced environment, Work under pressure, Physically demanding, Attention to detail, Standing for extended periods
Personal Suitability: Leadership, Dependability, Efficient interpersonal skills, Excellent oral communication, Flexibility, Initiative, Organized, Reliability, Team player
Language: English is required
Salary: 36 CAD hourly. 40 hours per week.
Benefits: Meals and tips are included.
Important Information: Flexibility in schedule is required. The regular work schedule runs from Tuesday to Friday, with shifts from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. On Saturdays, the shift is from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday work may be required for special events.
