Role: Engineer - E4 - Transmissions Stations Project Engineer
Location: Burnaby BC
Duration: 2026/08/03 - 2027/08/09 (12 months)
Work Schedule: 40 hours/week in person
Max INC Rate: $108.11
Max T4 Rate: $89.35

General Description

The E4 Engineer is a professional engineer or geoscientist who applies engineering knowledge to provide engineering estimating planning and quality management services for medium complexity projects and/or operations safely with quality within budget and on time.

The Senior Project Engineer Transmission - Stations will support BC Hydro projects by providing engineering expertise leading multi-discipline design teams resolving complex engineering challenges and supporting successful project execution.

Experience and Role Accountabilities

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a relevant engineering field or equivalent.
  • Develop safe engineering solutions by using initiative and judgement to perform tasks including developing designs analyzing and resolving problems and interpreting engineering specifications on medium complexity and scope assignments for BC Hydro projects and operations.
  • Assist project or operations management to meet safety cost quality and time objectives by proposing changes in plans and estimated costs recommending payment for work completed by contractors preparing progress reports coordinating work schedules and other similar tasks.
  • Resolve highly technical and unusual design and field engineering problems by conducting independent studies and analysis exercising independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information and recommending safe engineering designs to support successful operations and/or project completion.
  • Participate in BC Hydros engineering practice by conducting independent studies and analysis contributing to the development of technical standards exercising judgment in selecting and interpreting information recommending safe engineering designs and providing guidance and advice to other engineering professionals.

Additional Experience and Role Accountabilities

  • Minimum eight (8) years of substation engineering experience including significant experience working within the electrical utility industry.
  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline such as electrical civil structural or mechanical engineering.
  • Four (4) years of project engineering or project management experience either in a formal capacity or while acting as a lead engineer or work package manager.
  • Experience leading multi-discipline design teams including protection control and telecom systems.
  • Strong understanding of electric utility engineering with the ability to think from a transmission system and operations perspective.
  • Good working knowledge of project management principles and roles.
  • Expert knowledge of project management principles and practices.
  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with Project Managers and Delivery Partners.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills with the ability to present key project information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Good technical knowledge of substation design transmission lines and interconnections.

Education and Skills

  • Registered Professional Engineer (.) or Professional Geoscientist (.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or another jurisdiction and eligible for registration with EGBC.
  • Must have PMP certification.
  • Engineering degree in a relevant discipline such as electrical civil structural or mechanical engineering recognized by Canadian Universities.
  • Intermediate English skills for a professional environment written and spoken.
  • Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards.
  • Ability to use standard industry design/analysis software.
  • Intermediate MS Office skills (Word Excel and PowerPoint).
  • BC Hydro uses Digital Sign and Seal Technology. Candidates may be required to subscribe to a digital seal technology service offered by Notarius.

Professional Practice Requirements

  • Prior to commencement on assignment the selected candidate must have their own sole practitioner Permit to Practice or use their firms Permit to Practice with EGBC.
  • EGBC Registrants provided to BC Hydro through this assignment shall work under BC Hydros Professional Practice Management Plan Quality Management Pillar.
  • The Registrant shall apply their own or their firms Permit to Practice Number to work that is sealed by the Registrant.
  • Project documentation produced by the Registrant during the contract will be retained and preserved by BC Hydro to satisfy EGBC Bylaws.

Travel Requirements

  • Ability to travel within BC to various stations for field/site visits as required.
  • Approximately once every 2 months for 12 days.
  • Must be comfortable travelling to remote locations including travel via small aircraft and regional airports in support of site visits and field work.

Nice to Have

  • Good working knowledge of transmission line design.
  • Experience working with BC Hydro projects.
  • Experience with transmission systems and interconnections.
