Job description

DUTIES

The Department of Biological Sciences at Thompson Rivers University is made up of a diverse and collaborative group of faculty offering a : Biology; Animal Biology; Ecology and Environmental Biology; Cellular, Molecular and Microbial Biology; and, in collaboration with the Department of Physical Sciences, Chemical Biology. Cross-cutting themes include: the evolutionary frameworks guiding fundamental and applied ecology; responses of humans and diverse living communities to external stressors, including cellular responses; the use of classical and modern statistical, bioinformatic, and genomic tools to interrogate hypotheses and develop solutions for environmental problems. Core to these themes is a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentorship, collaboration within the Department and with colleagues across campus, participation in undergraduate Honours and MSc programs, and developing a positive environment where students are encouraged to grow as independent learners and critical thinkers.

We are seeking sessional hires for three roles for the Fall 2026 term.

First, we seek an instructor to teach BIOL 3200, an upper-level Immunology lecture course (3 credits).

Roles and responsibilities:

  1. The instructor will lead this lecture-based course.
  2. The instructor will create, administer and grade quizzes and examinations throughout the semester.

Second, we seek an instructor to teach a lecture section of BIOL 1210: Principles of Biology 2 (3 credits). BIOL 1210, with a focus primarily on evolution and ecology, is part of the first-year Biological Sciences course sequence.

Roles and responsibilities:

  1. The instructor will lead this lecture-based course.
  2. The instructor will create, administer and grade quizzes and examinations throughout the semester.

Third, we seek a lab coordinator for approximately 14-16 lab sections of BIOL 1210: Principles of Biology 2 (3 credits).

Roles and responsibilities:

Preparing and revising lab manuals, developing and modifying experiments, creating content on the laboratory Moodle site, managing the laboratory Moodle site, preparing lab quizzes and/or lab exams and marking schemes, preparing reporting format and assessments, lab-scheduling (including TAs and faculty teaching in the course), managing lab marks for the course, record-keeping, safety instruction for the course; organizing and leading weekly lab meetings to go over material for the week.
