About the role

We’re looking for an Internal Claims Adjuster – Casualty, to join our growing team!

As an Internal Claims Adjuster, Casualty, you will help customers over the phone with their casualty claims, mainly in the area of property damage and primarily in Personal Lines insurance (claims of $100,000 or less).

You will also help with other types of casualty files as needed. You will guide customers through the various stages of their claim: analyze the admissibility of the claim, conduct an investigation to determine the potential liability of the insured and/or third parties, evaluate the damages claimed and negotiate a settlement with the third party if appropriate.

What you’ll do here:

  • Listen to the customer and clearly explain the claim handling process, answer questions and deliver service that goes beyond the customer’s expectations.
  • Analyze the customer’s insurance policy and clearly explain what coverages they have in relation to the claim.
  • Gather versions of events about the circumstances of the loss from policyholders, third parties and other stakeholders.
  • Evaluate the potential liability of the insured and/or third parties based on relevant and well-substantiated investigation findings.
  • Evaluate whether the damages claimed against the insured are reasonable and well founded.
  • Communicate effectively with the customer to inform them of developments.
  • Annotate and document your file in accordance with the company’s standards and guidelines.
  • Effectively negotiate claims with third parties, as needed.
  • Manage expenses and eternal costs.
  • Actively collaborate with departments such as Claims Assignment, Collections, Underwriting, Appraisal, etc.
  • Assist in responding to catastrophes when they occur.

What you bring to the table:

  • 5A Claims Adjuster Licence.
  • College diploma and/or training that is equivalent and/or deemed relevant.
  • Six months to one year of experience as a claims adjuster with some experience handling casualty claims, an asset.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) – For candidates located in Quebec, bilingualism is required considering the necessity to interact on a regular basis with English-speaking colleagues across the country
  • Customer focus.
  • Comfortable managing a high volume of calls.
  • Fast learner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and simplify the claims process for the customer.
  • Analytical and summarizing skills.
  • Intellectual curiosity.
  • Ability to plan, organize and formulate a strategy.
  • Ability to adapt to different situations.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Enthusiasm, independence, efficiency and ability to work as part of a team.
