Job description

Position Overview

ARC’TERYX is growing in guest experience excellence, product sophistication, and operational volume. The Technology group is a key part of supporting and accelerating this growth.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in developing our technical product domain. Your expertise will guide team decisions, product capabilities, and software architecture. You will collaborate with other experienced engineers to improve existing systems and ensure long‑term operational stability.

This role is based out of ARC’TERYX headquarters in North Vancouver, BC. We offer a hybrid or remote work option; remote candidates must be committed to Pacific time zone hours. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

Meet Your Future Team

The technology team builds the backbone for arcteryx.com websites. We work with cross‑functional agile squads to roll out new features, improve performance, and build self‑serve tools for business stakeholders to create an amazing online experience for our guests.

Core Responsibilities

  • Direct the development direction and technical health of a medium‑sized product area comprising a collection of features.
  • Become a subject‑matter expert of your specific product business domain.
  • Understand systems deeply, enabling efficient and effective debugging.
  • Demonstrate at least one major skill outside of programming such as devops, performance optimization, monitoring, or visual design.
  • Help mentor and raise the technical bar of other team members.
  • Produce technical documentation for existing parts of the system and propose refactorings.
  • Participate extensively in code reviews, mentoring others via code reviews and pairing.
  • Execute performance tuning, improvement, balancing, usability, and automation.
  • Contribute to common code bases and define standards for the team.
  • Present at team meetings for knowledge sharing.
  • Own technical design for projects of moderate complexity and understand trade‑offs in building good software.
  • Require very little oversight beyond high‑level direction; take complex user stories, break them into sub‑tasks, and complete them with ease.
  • Show initiative beyond completing tasks; identify and suggest areas of future work for yourself or the team.
  • Seek evidence to support ideas and build cases for them.
  • Work effectively with non‑tech members of your area; identify problems with requirements and help the team course‑correct.
  • Align with ARC’TERYX leadership practices and culture in daily work.

Future Work

  • Coaching and mentoring other software engineers.
  • Building and delivering maintainable, high‑quality software for a best‑in‑class e‑commerce experience.
  • Implementing best‑in‑class developer experiences through team building events, knowledge sharing sessions, and other initiatives.
  • Initiating refactoring of low‑performing parts of the software.
  • Contributing to the software architecture of new products.
  • Improving tests and overall application quality.
  • Defining clear contracts between systems and maintaining integration.
  • Setting up non‑regression detection systems with SLA.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant experience with full‑stack development in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Polyglot programming language skills, excelling in one or two languages.
  • Extensive knowledge of programming best practices.
  • Proficient in TypeScript and Node.js.
  • Expert in React Native; comfortable with Swift/Kotlin and mobile‑only challenges.
  • Experience working with transactional and NoSQL databases.
  • Proficient in writing and maintaining automated user tests and unit tests.
  • Advocate for a schema‑first approach to writing APIs.
  • Experience integrating with third‑party APIs, OAuth 2.0, and headless solutions.
  • Experience with cloud computing providers, container solutions, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of microservices concepts and architecture.
  • Experience with CDN, web servers, load‑balancer configuration and management.
  • Great communication, problem‑solving, and documentation skills.
  • Proactive in identifying root causes of issues and developing solutions.
  • Highly flexible and adaptable in ambiguous situations.
  • Passion for work parallel to passion for outdoor adventure.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is CAD$94,000 – CAD$124,000.

Total Rewards

Most new team members join between the start and midpoint of the range, contributing right away while continuing to grow their craft. The range reflects market alignment and scope of the role. Individual pay is determined by skills, experience, and level of responsibility.

Benefits

  • Health & wellbeing – Extended health, dental, and vision coverage, including mental health support, fertility benefits, gender‑affirming care, and a 24/7 Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Financial wellbeing – RRSP matching and eligibility for Arc’teryx Annual Incentive Plan and Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP) where applicable.
  • Time & flexibility – Paid time off, wellness time, and a No Wasted Day program (dedicated paid days to get outside & explore).
  • Family support – Parental leave top‑up and a nesting period for new parents.
  • Growth, community & gear – Professional development opportunities, Arc’teryx Academies (outdoor skill‑building events), Employee Belonging Councils, and access to employee discounts and Pro Deals.

*Eligibility for certain programs may vary by role.

Equal Opportunity

Arc’teryx is committed to actively creating and fostering a culture of inclusivity where voices are heard, people are seen, and values are respected. We care about the uniqueness of our applicants, employees, and guests, and we do so in a safe space fueled by curiosity and acceptance.

Creating an inclusive workplace is aligned with our core value Do Right and brings benefits such as a healthier, happier workplace, increased creativity and innovation, and better reflection of the communities where we operate.

All applicants, employees, and guests can expect equal opportunity and fair treatment in alignment with our values.
