Job description

We’re a team of friends bound together by a mission to preserve our planet for future generations through innovative energy solutions and modern infrastructure. In December 2025, Google announced an agreement to acquire Intersect, to enable more data center and generation capacity to come online faster while accelerating energy development and innovation. After close, we’ll continue doing exactly what we were built to do - develop, construct, and operate the most ambitious power and data infrastructure in the country.

Intersect’s operations will remain separate from Alphabet and Google under the Intersect brand. We’re on an aggressive growth trajectory and looking for people hungry to tackle the largest energy challenges on the planet.

Location & Team Gatherings

Intersect has been a fully flexible workplace since its founding in 2016. We’ve been very intentional about the way we do things. We are not work-from-home, hybrid, or in-office - we are any and all of those options! Deepening social connections and offering shared experiences is a cornerstone of the way we work. We connect as a team at our Team Week experiences four times a year and at our recently established Hub locations - SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Austin, TX; Calgary, AB; and Toronto, ON.

We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture.

About This Role

As part of Intersect’s Technology team, you’ll own and scale a modern cybersecurity program that safeguards critical systems while enabling rapid digital growth. You’ll operate as a hands-on leader, shaping both strategy and execution across cloud, SaaS, and enterprise environments. You’ll partner closely with IT, engineering, and business teams to embed strong security practices into everyday operations while building resilient systems that support long-term infrastructure growth.

Team Overview

This team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect’s mission to accelerate the clean energy transition by building and maintaining secure, scalable systems that power our infrastructure. Working cross-functionally with teams across engineering, finance, and operations, the Technology team ensures innovation is supported by reliable, resilient, and forward-thinking systems. Joining this team means contributing to high-impact initiatives while growing alongside a group committed to collaboration, continuous improvement, and long-term value creation.

What You’ll Do

Lead Cybersecurity Strategy

  • Define, own, and scale Intersect’s cybersecurity program to support a fast-growing, cloud-first environment

  • Establish security policies, frameworks, and controls aligned with business objectives and industry best practices

  • Partner cross-functionally to integrate security into system design, infrastructure, and operations

Secure Cloud, SaaS, and Endpoints

  • Implement and manage security solutions across Okta, Google Workspace, GCP, SIEM platforms, and CrowdStrike

  • Establish and maintain security controls across SaaS applications, including access governance and vendor risk management

  • Strengthen email security and phishing prevention programs to protect organizational communication channels

Drive Threat Detection and Incident Response

  • Own incident response processes, leading detection, investigation, and resolution of security events

  • Build and refine monitoring capabilities through SIEM and endpoint tools to proactively identify threats

  • Continuously assess vulnerabilities and implement mitigation strategies across systems

Enable Security Awareness and Resilience

  • Champion a culture of security awareness through training, communication, and cross-functional collaboration

  • Operate as the primary cybersecurity leader, balancing proactive planning with hands-on execution

  • Engage with external security communities to stay ahead of emerging threats and evolving best practices

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field

  • 7+ years of experience in cybersecurity within IT or corporate environments, including building or scaling security programs

  • Proven ability to independently own and operate a cybersecurity function or program

  • Hands-on expertise with Okta (IAM), SIEM platforms, Google Workspace security, GCP security tools, and CrowdStrike

  • Experience securing SaaS environments, including access governance and vendor risk management

  • Strong foundation in cloud and network security architecture, including IAM frameworks and best practices

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and respond to security incidents independently

  • Experience supporting audits and aligning security practices with industry standards and frameworks

  • Ability to work cross-functionally across IT and operational systems to drive security outcomes

  • Understanding of cybersecurity risks in cloud-first, scaling environments and how to mature controls effectively

  • Active engagement with the cybersecurity community to stay current on threats, tools, and best practices

  • A disciplined, ownership-driven work style that enables success as a primary security leader in a lean environment

  • Calm, thoughtful decision-making under pressure, paired with curiosity and a commitment to continuous learning

  • Alignment with Intersect’s values, with a focus on collaboration, long-term impact, and building secure systems that support sustainable infrastructure growth
