Description:

The District of Saanich is the largest municipality on beautiful Vancouver Island, blending urban and rural landscapes and home to , citizens. We are seeking an Indigenous Relations Coordinator to join our new Equity Office team and serve in a critical role to advance reconciliation. We maintain a welcoming, healthy, and dynamic workplace that consistently attracts people committed to providing high quality service to our community. The District office is accessible by both transit and the Galloping Goose and Lochside Regional trails.

The Indigenous Relations Coordinator will harness their passion to advance this pivotal role developing an Indigenous Engagement Framework and related policy and initiatives. The coordinator will build on their experience to develop strong, trusted relationships with First Nations, Indigenous organizations, Indigenous housing providers, and urban Indigenous people to understand priorities and interests and implement engagement activities. The role will also support housing- and land-related engagement, maintain important relationship management systems, and prepare reports, presentations, and other materials.

Requirements include: a University Degree in a related field, with additional cultural competency training required if the degree is not in First Nations and Indigenous Studies; a minimum of two years of related experience in Indigenous engagement, policy and framework development, and planning; excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; proficiency in MS Office and database systems; and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m or 9:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m. (35 hours per week). Some flexibility is required as there may be travel around the peninsula and occasional evening work (if so, the workday would be adjusted accordingly). Remote options of up to 1-2 days/week may be available. As a component of the selection process, testing may be conducted.
