Job description
PURPOSE:As a senior leader at Regina Public Library the Director of Collections Strategy and Logistics drives the strategic development acquisition and system-wide management of library collections to maximize access efficiency and community impact. The Director is responsible for ensuring collections are: Strategically aligned with community needs and organizational priorities Efficiently acquired processed and distributed across the system Continuously optimized through data analytics and multi-branch best practicesThis role also provides leadership in optimizing RPLs participation in the Saskatchewan Information and Library Services Consortium (SILS) within their area of responsibility collections technical services acquisitions and Director champions intellectual freedom as a foundational principle ensuring collections policies practices and decisions uphold equitable access to diverse ideas perspectives and information for all members of the a member of RPLs Senior Leadership Team reporting to an Executive Director the Director works closely with Branch Managers and other unit leaders to drive cross functional collaboration across the organization champion innovation in collection practices and contribute to organizational CANDIDATE:The ideal candidate is a strategic and systems-thinking leader with significant experience spanning collections management technical services procurement and logistics within a complex multi-branch bring a strong ability to integrate strategy with operationsoptimizing collections development with efficient materials flow and procurement to create measurable results in achieving RPL key performance indicators. They are highly skilled in using data and analytics to drive decisions improve performance and enhance customer experience.A confident change leader they bring demonstrated experience leading organizational transformationsuccessfully implementing new models processes and systems through structured change management approaches that support staff engagement adoption and sustained demonstrate a strong commitment to intellectual freedom and equity of access applying these principles in collections strategy policy interpretation and decision-making in a complex and evolving public to listen learn and grow RPLs potential the Director works with a high-performing team to foster innovation while maintaining a strong commitment to service excellence and community authentic and collaborative leader they inspire teams foster strong internal and external partnerships and champion a vision where collections are central to access equity and exceptional customer ACCOUNTABILITIES: Lead system-wide collections strategy including selection frameworks format strategy and allocation models. Ensure collections policies and practices uphold intellectual freedom diversity of perspectives and equitable access to information. Oversee end-to-end materials logistics including acquisitions technical services processing distribution and holds fulfillment. Optimize materials flow inventory movement and offsite storage to maximize access efficiency and customer satisfaction. Lead procurement vendor strategy and contract negotiations to ensure cost-effective lifecycle management. Establish and monitor key performance indicators (e.g. circulation turnover holds fill rates cost per use etc.). Drive a culture of evidence-based decision-making using data and analytics. Lead and support organizational change initiatives related to collections logistics systems and service delivery. Develop and implement change management strategies including communication stakeholder engagement training and adoption planning. Build organizational readiness and resilience by supporting staff through change. Provide strategic leadership for RPLs participation in SILS including shared systems and provincial resource sharing balancing local autonomy with Consortium efficiencies. Collaborate across business units to align collections with customer experience programming and service delivery. Contribute to organizational strategy and decision-making as a member of the Senior Leadership & COMPETENCIES: Visionary collaborative and values-driven leader with a strong commitment to public library service. Demonstrated senior leadership experience in collections management technical services or a related field. Deep knowledge of principles and emerging trends in library collections access and logistics. Experience working with integrated library systems and shared consortium environments (SILS experience is an asset). Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data and insights to drive strategy and decision-making. Proven ability to lead teams manage change and build a culture of collaboration and accountability. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with staff partners vendors and stakeholders. Strong written oral and presentation skills. Demonstrated experience in planning budgeting and resource allocation. Masters degree in library and information studies from an ALA-accredited institution required Minimum of five years progressively increased responsibilities.
