Pipe Layer

Company: Infracon Group of Companies
Location: Western Canada — potential project locations may include Hope, 100 Mile House, Merritt, Dawson Creek, Kamloops, and surrounding areas
Type: Full-Time / Project-Based
Wage Range: $27.00 – $33.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

About the Role

The Infracon Group of Companies is seeking experienced Pipe Layers for potential upcoming civil construction, mining, and pipeline maintenance work across Western Canada.

This role is best suited for a skilled and safety-focused individual with hands-on experience installing underground utilities, storm systems, water lines, sanitary sewer, culverts, drainage systems, and related civil infrastructure. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in trenches, around excavators and other heavy equipment, and as part of a coordinated field crew.

Our projects may include road construction, earthworks, drainage, utility installation, pipeline maintenance, mine support work, site development, reclamation, and civil infrastructure upgrades. We are looking for pipe layers who take pride in quality workmanship, understand safe trenching and excavation practices, and can work well with foremen, excavator operators, labourers, truck drivers, and project teams.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced pipe layers who enjoy varied project work and are open to supporting projects in different locations throughout Western Canada.

Key Responsibilities

Pipe Installation & Underground Utility Work

  • Install storm, sanitary, water, culvert, drainage, and underground utility systems as directed
  • Set, align, grade, and connect pipe according to project specifications and field direction
  • Work safely in and around trenches, excavations, bedding material, utilities, and active equipment
  • Assist with pipe bedding, backfilling, compaction, and trench preparation
  • Support installation of manholes, catch basins, culverts, fittings, valves, and related infrastructure
  • Read and understand basic grade stakes, laser levels, markings, drawings, and field layout
  • Check grades, slopes, elevations, and alignments to support accurate installation
  • Work closely with excavator operators to ensure safe and efficient pipe placement

Civil Construction Support

  • Support road construction, drainage improvements, site development, earthworks, and infrastructure projects
  • Assist with site preparation, trench cleanup, material handling, and general crew support
  • Coordinate with foremen, operators, labourers, surveyors, and other field personnel
  • Help sequence work to support safe and efficient production
  • Identify field issues such as grade conflicts, unsuitable ground, drainage concerns, or utility conflicts and report them to supervision
  • Support practical problem-solving as site conditions change

Tools, Materials & Site Organization

  • Use hand tools, pipe tools, small equipment, lasers, levels, and measuring tools safely and effectively
  • Load, unload, move, and organize pipe, fittings, tools, materials, bedding, and construction supplies
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas, trench zones, and material staging areas
  • Support proper storage and handling of pipe, fittings, valves, and related materials
  • Assist with daily setup, shutdown, and cleanup activities
  • Report damaged tools, missing materials, or site concerns to supervision

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company, client, and project safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices
  • Participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, field-level hazard assessments, and site orientations
  • Maintain strong awareness around trenches, excavations, heavy equipment, traffic, utilities, slopes, and changing site conditions
  • Use required personal protective equipment at all times
  • Follow safe excavation, trenching, shoring, and confined space procedures where applicable
  • Identify and report hazards, incidents, near misses, or unsafe conditions
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, quality, teamwork, and productive work practices

What You Bring

  • Previous experience as a pipe layer in civil construction, roadwork, utility, drainage, or infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of underground utility installation, trench safety, bedding, backfill, and grade control
  • Experience installing storm, sanitary, water, culvert, and drainage systems is preferred
  • Ability to work safely around excavators, loaders, compactors, trucks, and workers on foot
  • Ability to read and understand grade stakes, markings, plans, and field direction
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physically demanding tasks
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a crew
  • Reliable, punctual, and willing to travel for project-based work
