General Information
Job Description: The Durability Test Engineer - RTS will be responsible for setting up and conducting durability tests using MTS real-time hydraulically actuated simulators and conducting data acquisition using various data acquisition systems. This involves coordinating test specimen build, setting up data acquisition systems, simulator performance tuning and operation, data processing, daily durability test inspections/reporting, communicating test results to Product Engineering, attending test issue reporting meetings, and assisting in conducting durability issue investigations. As part of the core responsibilities, the Durability Test Engineer will be required to have a detailed understanding of RPC Pro and FlexTest software to operate the simulators and possess a good ability to operate and conduct data acquisition at the Stellantis proving grounds. A thorough understanding of damage severity concepts is required.

The successful candidate will be a process and detail oriented individual with a proven ability to lead projects from start to finish with minimal guidance. Additionally, good communication and leadership skills are required to coordinate and instruct bargaining unit mechanics in performing specimen builds, installations, repairs and teardowns. Finally, an integral component of being a successful member of our team requires working collaboratively with the RTS mechanic supervisor, union, management, maintenance and facilities teams.



Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial/Aeronautical Engineering required from an accredited university

Experience with data acquisition equipment using various transducers including accelerometers, load cells and strain gages.

Understanding of damage severity analysis and stress-life/load-life calculations
MTS RPC Pro and FlexTest experience preferred.

Competent with the Microsoft Office Suite of products including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, VBA.

Strong time management, leadership, planning and follow up skills.

Excellent written and oral skills.

Will consider new graduates with related co-op experience.

Ability to support working days, afternoons, midnight shifts and weekends on occasion.

Experience working in a unionized environment

Experience working with servo-hydraulic systems including troubleshooting and tuning



Preferred Requirements:

Master's degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial/Aeronautical Engineering.

Experience Minimum of 2-5 years of engineering experience within a testing environment within the automotive industry.

Hydraulically actuated testing experience using MTS RPC Pro/FlexTest software.

Experience with nCode and Somat eDAQ equipment.

Previous CANBUS experience, (CANanlyzer, etc).

Strain gauge theory and application.

Will be required to drive a company car. Valid driver's license is required as well as a clean driving record.

Will be required to travel domestically and internationally 0-20%.

Durability Test Engineer (Req 603) – Supplier Notes
  • Hiring manager is open to both experienced candidates and recent graduates. The biggest priorities are a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and good communication/interpersonal skills.
  • Primary responsibilities include supporting durability testing, coordinating with U.S.-based engineers, gathering parts, running tests, and documenting results. Training will be provided on internal systems and software.
  • Preferred backgrounds include mechanical engineering, automotive testing, co-op/internship experience, OEM experience, or other relevant technical work. CAN/CANalyzer knowledge is a plus but not required.
  • This is a fully onsite position with rotating shifts in a 24/7 testing environment. Candidates must be comfortable rotating between days, afternoons, and midnight shifts (typically every 4 weeks).
  • Occasional weekend work may be available based on testing demand and is generally handled on a voluntary basis.
  • A valid driver's license is preferred. Ability to travel across the U.S.-Canada border is beneficial due to occasional meetings in Auburn Hills, but not a strict requirement for the right candidate.
