What is the Opportunity?

Reporting to the Indigenous Relations Senior Manager, the Indigenous Liaison Coordinator will provide administration, field and operational support, and coordination within Ontario and with specific priority on the Williams Treaty First Nations (WTFN) territory and the Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON) territory.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Supporting implementation of Aecon’s Indigenous Relations Strategy within the rights holder communities to our projects.
  • Assist in the development of community relations and partnership initiatives within the project.
  • Interface with functional groups to coordinate procurement, employment, and training opportunities for projects.
  • Act as a liaison between project team and the rights holder communities, and other participants to support project commitments, committees and communications.
  • File management and recordkeeping.
  • Support implementation of our projects Indigenous participation plans, including cultural awareness, capacity-building, and economic inclusion initiatives.
  • Provide proposal development and communications support tailored to the rights holders of our projects and surrounding communities, ensuring clarity, cultural sensitivity, and responsiveness.
  • Administrative oversight of Indigenous Participation Plans, including data collection, analysis and reporting within the project.
  • Participate in relationship-building opportunities, including conferences, in community events and other offsite events to develop and maintain productive working relationships with the communities.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Indigenous engagement strategies, recommending improvements based on feedback and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure all Indigenous-related project activities meet regulatory and contractual obligations.
  • Contribute to internal training and education efforts to build cultural competency across project teams.
  • Other duties as required.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience with Indigenous engagement, research, consulting or strong knowledge of Indigenous culture, governance systems and history.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Experience with general project communications and/or community engagement is considered an asset.
  • Excellent Computer skills including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Mobility is essential, the position requires the successful candidate to be on the road travelling between communities and our project sites.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles; can get messages across that have the desired effect; is effective both inside and outside the organization, and controversial topics.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to work effectively under pressure with multiple deadlines and tasks.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of (and established relationships within) Williams Treaty First Nations and/or Saugeen Ojibway Nation are strongly preferred
  • Local to one of the Indigenous communities, Indigenous lived experience and knowledge of local Indigenous culture is an asset.
  • Demonstrates an awareness and understanding of UNDRIP and the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions' 94 Calls to Action, specifically number 92.
  • Demonstrates an awareness and understanding of Section 35 of the Constitution Act.

The expected salary range for this opportunity is $65,000 - $75,000 per year

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
