Job Details
The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our Community Services department as the Manager, Cultural Programming. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Community Services, this position will be responsible for overseeing cultural programming, including community performing arts, programming for the Arden Theatre and City Arts Space performance venues, support for community arts organizations, the International Children’s Festival, Canada Day, and other City events.
Responsibilities
- Support the success and long-term viability of direct program delivery though the implementation of strategic plans for multi-disciplinary performing arts programs; which includes ensuring that trend analysis, customer feedback, community engagement, program and instructor evaluation, budget constraints and market gap identification
- Overall management and operation of the Northern Alberta International Children’s Festival including the development and execution of contracts for staff, technicians, and artists
- Provides leadership and oversight of sponsorship and fund development for the department, ensuring the development of a sponsorship strategy for the department to support the delivery of cultural programs and services and facility operations.
- Develops, recommends and implements responsive fee structures for programs and events based on market rates and budget expectations and recommends any changes to the Director.
- Develop Agenda Reports, respond to Information Requests generated by City Council, Executive Leadership, and public, as required.
- Collaborate in the preparation of departmental action plans and work plans.
Qualifications
- Degree in related field such as business, arts and culture, theatre or recreation is required.
- 10 years of experience in arts and cultural management, fund development, event management, or related is required.
- Demonstrated competency in program development, supervision of staff, and organizational development is required.
- Excellent understanding of, and skill in business practices, management, communications, supervision techniques, volunteer management, board development practices, negotiation techniques, grant and report writing, and analytics.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
Hours of Work
- We offer a compressed bi-weekly work schedule of 72 hours, Monday Friday, 8:00 – 5:00, with a biweekly regular day off (RDO).
- Benefit from flexible work hours by adjusting your start and end times by 30 or 60 minutes around our core hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Applicants must be required to work flexible schedules periodically as start and end times could shift for operational needs.
Compensation
- The salary ranges from $116,069.72 - $139,966.84 per year including a comprehensive benefits package and accrued paid vacation starting at 4 weeks per year.
- Candidates not meeting the full qualifications may be considered for a development opportunity at a lower classification and salary.

Term
- This is a term position from June 2026 to June 2027, with the possibility of an extension.
- This assignment is covering an employee on leave and is subject to their early return.
