NAIT’sCentre for Advanced Medical Simulation (CAMS) is a world-class accreditedsimulation facility that enables the simulation of varied,structured scenarios in realistic clinical, community care, and home careenvironments.
CAMS brings together a unique suite of customizable simulationtheatres with the expertise of simulation specialists and allied healthprofessionals, including paramedicine, medical laboratory technology,diagnostic imaging, and respiratory therapy.
These professionals are oftenend-users of innovative technology.
Thisposition requires growth, leadership skills, and the ability to coordinate withinternal and external clients. This includes establishing quality standards inhealthcare and field settings and ensuring they are met.
Additionally, theincumbent has technical preparatory responsibilities. The position requiresstrong knowledge and understanding of the technology, procedures, andinstrumentation used in the Simulation Centre.
The incumbent is required toassess, recommend, and order equipment and supplies consistent with program(s)specifications and stated instructional requirements.
The work may involveselecting, designing, adapting, and modifying new or existing methods andequipment for use in simulation.
The incumbent may provide training to programstaff and instruction to students in the correct use and safety of theequipment;
this includes the repair, calibration and troubleshooting ofsophisticated simulation manikins and other equipment. This role will include avariety of responsibilities including onsite support for facilitators and onlinevirtual simulations.
The successful candidate would demonstrate leadership,advanced interpersonal and organizational skills, independence withinestablished policies and collaboration with team members.
KeyAccountabilities :
- Assist with the coordination and support of studentsimulations
- Support simulation training and scenario design
- Support the virtual simulation implementation andstrategy
- Set up and take down laboratory equipment as required
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance andservice calls
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate laboratoryequipment / instrumentation to manufacturers’ standards in compliance withprogram specifications
- Provide general operating, troubleshooting, andmaintenance support to the programs
- Perform quality control procedures
- Assist in the ordering of supplies and expendableitems, and maintain related inventory records
- Actively participate in business plan objectives asidentified by the institute and CAMS
- Utilize regular feedback to identify and implementimprovement
- Engage in professional development activities
- Attend staff meetings
- Maintain and repair diversified and complex laboratoryand test equipment and ensures equipment area meets instructional requirements
- May assist with the installation and / or install newand complex equipment
- Assess and calibrate new laboratories andequipment
Act as a laboratory assistant to instructional staffduring simulations and provide guidance in the correct use and safety ofequipment
Order equipment and supplies for laboratories andperform related stores and inventory control duties including assessinginstructional equipment and recommending acceptance or rejection
Skills& Abilities :
- Experience in the delivery of adult education isdesirable
- Exemplary communication skills to work with externalclients unfamiliar with simulation
- Ability to work within a project team withtime-sensitive deliverables and revenue targets
- Knowledge of the simulation technology, includingtheories and accepted procedures and practices, and their industrialapplications
- Significant knowledge of simulation procedures andlaboratory practices employed in educational laboratories
- Knowledge of related health and simulation equipmentand devices, their use and applications
- Knowledge of the simulation supplemented by knowledgeof virtual or screen-based simulation and AV equipment
- Understanding of supervisory techniques, practices inaddition to project management
Qualifications :
- Completion of Grade twelve
- Diploma in the field related to the positionassignments. For example, Chemical Technology, supplemental course work inelectronics, instrumentation, or related area
- Several years of related diversified industryexperience
- Equivalencies are considered as per the following :
- Two-year diploma from NAIT or a comparable technicalinstitute; OR
- Eligible for certification as a technologist with (CHSEand / or CHSOS) plus several years of related experience; OR
- License from an Alberta health profession; OR
- Graduation from an accredited health program
- A solid understanding of health professions
- Experience in health simulation
- Experience working with students in a PSI
- Must be willing to concurrently work towardsachievement of CHSE and CHSOS during the term of the temporary position.Details regarding certification can be found at the following website : https : / / www.

Remuneration : $59,603.44- $79,497.34 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification Education Laboratory Specialist III).
Thisposition is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) CollectiveAgreement.
