Job Profile
The City of Cambridge has an opening within the Adult Day Programs, Recreation and Culture Division, Community Services Department for a Temporary Part-time Adult Day Program Cook.
What you will be doing
- Determines food needs; orders and purchases items for programs operating at a variety of locations.
- Prepares noon or evening meals; morning, and afternoon and evening snacks for a mainly elderly population attending programs at a variety of locations.
- Adjusts daily menu and preparations as required for last minute call in shifts
- Accommodates special therapeutic dietary requirements for the client group
- Sets up and cleans kitchen and dining room area at William E. Pautler Centre or assist volunteers with task as required.
- Portions and packages food items for delivery to or pick up for programs at Allan Reuter Centre and other various locations as required.
- Plates and portions noon hour meal according to client dietary needs at William E. Pautler Centre.
- Washes dishes, pots and pans and puts way or assists volunteers with task as required.
- Directs and supervises kitchen and dining room volunteers.
- Prepares meal expense statistics, processes food invoices for payment and completes other financial forms.
Education
High school Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
Experience and Knowledge
Culinary training and one year experience in food preparation for special populations
Valid G driver’s license
WHMIS Training; Supervisor Health & Safety Awareness in 5 Steps Certificate
Valid Emergency First Aid including CPR and AED Certification
Verification of a current and valid Police Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector will be required upon offer of employment.
Valid Ontario Safe Food Handlers Training Certificate

Your compensation
This position is within Grade 5 of the inside workers union Salary Schedule and has a hourly wage of $33.72.
Hours of work
This role requires scheduling flexibility, as shifts will vary due to vacation coverage and unplanned sick leave. Available shifts include 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, and 8:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
